Hi guys.

I have a Buffalo Link station NAS 1TB and tonight it seems to have just stopped working.

When clicking on the drive Icon I get the following error message.

An error has occurred while reconnecting (to share location)
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
This connection has not been restored.

I have tried remapping the drive but get an error saying it cant be found, the rest of the network is working fine and I have checked all the cable connections.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

  • Run Nasnavigator, mine does that sometimes, usually after network glitch

  • I have tried going though the NAS Navigator program but nothing happens when I try to browse the drive.

I can log on to the admin page and can view all my directories via FTP, but I can not use explorer or open my files.

In NasNav menu can you unmap drives then map them again.

    Failed mapping.
    Remote default share is missing.

I have also tried a factory reset on the NAS but still ave the same issues.

Power everything off leave it a while then power everything up just in case the ip addresses have become screwed
  • Hi Diable,

I have left everything off now for 24 hours but made no difference.

I have emailed bufflao support, and I am waiting to here back from them.

The unit is still in warrenty which is going to leave me with a dilemla based on other forum posts I have seen about issues with thier NAS drives.

They will only do a replace and not repair so I will lose my data (nearly 1tb). If I remove the HDD to recover my data I will void the warrenty and have to fork out for another NAS drive.

    Thanks all foryour help.

Hi Mr Sq , earlier you stated that you can ftp to the drive, you could use that to recover all your files, Filezilla is a useful tool for this, with a Gui. I will dig out my manual for the NAS and have another look too.

  • Another possible cause could be the Workgroup settings be wrong/corrupted. Have a look on the web interface network workgroup tab, and compare with the Workgroup on the PC, and it may be your firewall/antivirus. PS which version of Windoze have you got.

  • Hi debitcardmayhem,

I can view the directory contents via ftp, but when trying to get the files off that way it says I need the password to access the files but I have already entered the password to view the directory.

I have checked the workgroup still the same.

I use XP SP3 on my destop, and Vista on my laptop, niether machine can connect to the drive.
