Quick question regarding ESA & fit notes..

Do the DWP send reminders to send in a new fit note, or is it claimaints responsibility.
Just my fit notes last for ages, and its hard to remember when they run out, would hate to forget and have them cancell a claim.
Also, anyone know the procedure if you do forget?
Also, do you have to keep sending in fit notes during an appeal for ESA, as an appeal is going to be likely no doubt.

[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)

Not helpful if you forget to check the calender, lose the calender, forget to mark details on the calender, miscalculate the future date and get it wrong etc.
Certainly would not be helpful for someone who say was claiming ESA on grounds they cant even do simple tasks like setting an alarm clock (Im not, but some will be).
I could easily forget to check, or miscalculate, or simply forget about the calender completly if someone moved it.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

surely you have to be prepared to take some responsibility in return for your benefits?0

As I expect you already know they you used to send out reminders for IB but I do not know if they still do for ESA.
If you have a bad memory you could take a copy of the fit note and keep it somewhere where you will see it and check that way.
If you forget to send it in your benefit will be stopped.
Yes you have to supply fit notes whilst waiting for an appeal.0 -

I am, I am asking what the rules are, for example, I have no idea if fit notes need to be sent in during an appeal.
I was not even told specifically to keep on sending in fit notes in order to keep on the benefit, I found that out myself....
Basically, regardless of what mental health problem a person may have, it is their responsibility to perform this action, even if they may be unable to.
That is not how the DWP operate sometimes, which is why I want to clarify how they operate this time.
For example, if a person forgets to fill in the ESA form, mental health problems are taken into consideration and a reminder sent.
I am taking responsibility in regards to the fact I know there is a good chance at some point I may forget to send in a fit note, and wish to know what the rules are regarding reminders / actions if that occurs.
If for example, there is no reminder, I may have to request someone else such as the doctors issues a reminder if possible.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

You're are so right my son has severe mental health problems and between his illness and his meds he really can't handle even the basic stuff like this.
When he was on the assessment rate of ESA he forgot to put in his sick note a few time meaning a delay in his money. At no time did the DWP remind it so I'm pretty sure they don't bother doing that.
Luckily he doesn't have to do this now as he had his medical and was placed in the support group. Thinking about it my husband (also in the support group) never got reminded on the assessment rate either.
I don't know if this will work for the you but we put the dates in my son's phone straight away setting the alarm for one week before a new note was needed. It's not perfect but it did help and you're less likely to lose a phone I think.0 -
I was sent reminders when my notes were about to expire, during the assessment phase.0

Good to know, as I never had to send in fit notes whilst appealing IB..[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

A tip for all those that need reminders.
I use google calendar (free) to record all my appointments and important dates. You can set it up to send multiple reminder emails and/or texts to your phone. All for free. :j
Bonus is that it's stored in the 'cloud' and therefore will never get lost!Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!0 -
