Whoops, a tad embarrassed!

I finally got my moped 10days or so ago after paying for it well before Christmas. Due to last weeks appalling weather I didn't have a chance to try it out until Sunday...when it wouldn't start:eek: I knew it was very. very low on fuel when I picked it up, so got a friend to drive me to Tesco to get some - it took the whole can, showing quite how low it was:cool:. But it still wouldn't start, either on the electric start or the kick start. I was gutted, its an ex-demo and only has 300km on the clock and was the best I could afford and I would really struggle to pay for any repairs, even with a parts guarantee:(.

Thankfully a friend offered to have a look at it for me, suspecting it was just a loose wire in the electrics. He came today and...............it turns out I am just a complete girl and was too gentle on the kick start:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: After a bit of teasing he got me to practise until I could do it (which took quite a while, tbh:o) and then I took him to Thorntons for hot chocolate!!!

I thought this might amuse some of you, a nice laugh to start the wekend.:D:p

Glad it was nothing serious. I drove a moped years back. They are great fun. When I bought my first car I went to the local garage to put some air in one of the tyres as it seemed a bit low. Had to call my dad out to rescue me. Dont know what I did wrong but I completely deflated it by mistake. He has never let me forget it :o

Its not too bad down here temperature-wise, plus has been dry for a few days (at last!) so hoping to get out on it briefly tomorrow. I've had a few lessons but not on my own scooter and mostly on private land, so intend to go out around 7-8am so I get practise before theres much traffic.

Whoops!:D My worst with a car was when it broke down on a petrol station forecourse. It was a classic car and massively heavier than modern cars and so took about 4 people to move it into a parking space.
  • not as embarrasing as trying to open the front door with the remote for the car ..............it had been a long day ........

Took 5 litres? My moped had a 12.5L tank and you could squeeze more in if you filled to the filler neck.

My sister wasnt impressed when she offered to pay for my fuel at the same time she was paying for hers.
She thought it would be £3-£4, (This was pre £1+ a litre). Nearly £8, She never offered again.

Thought they had a 5L tank.

  • Yeah my Gilera Runner SP50 which I had in 2003 had a 12 litre fuel tank. God knows where it packed that within the bike! Remember filling it up and only cost about £7-8 back then. :D

Don't worry. A few weeks ago, me and my mate spent a whole evening in my garage trying to start an old motorcycle I bought for £80. Between us we have over 50 years experience with motors. We tried everything. Finally we switched the kill switch from off to on and it started right up.

I have done this too, and you only ever do it once. I rang my DH cus I coudn't get my bike to start and first words out of him were 'Have you still got the kill switch on ? '... Opps yes I did.
