I do understand what you're saying but my friend has been making flowers for years so it's not a quick attempt at home-made. I do take your point about how supermarket flowers can be transported etc but then you say about shipping from Holland - what's wrong with getting local in season flowers? I've often bought supermarket flowers for a quick brighten up the house and they've always lasted a few days at worst, and looked as good as they day they were bought. Mine would be bought and made up same day and delivered next morning for the wedding.
I'm not saying I will deffo use supermarket ones but I don't see it as the real doom and gloom scenario you paint of witling bruised flowers that ruin my big day0 -
I'll be having supermarket flowers, bought on the day and tied into a simple bouquet. Flowers just don't seem as important as other aspects of the day. We're having flowers in vases for centerpieces too. It would cost a small fortune to buy from a florist!0

I have been lucky enough to receive many floral arrangements, delivered by the local florist, only to have a few days later, many of the flowers wilting or in one case, the roses rotting at the head. Yes I went back with the said flowers and they were replaced but at £40-£50 for the original flowers not really acceptable.
I love fresh flowers and reguarly pop a bunch into my trolly at the local supermarket and I have to say I usually get 10 days to 2 weeks out of them. Tescos finest at £12 are without doubt the most beautiful, stunning and long lasting flowers I have ever received (don't buy them myself usually stick to the £4.99 bunch). I have told my other half in future if he wants to by me flowers, get them from there. Third of the cost, last longer and I think are much prettier.
My step daughter is getting married next May and a friend is doing them with.............yes shop bought flowers.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
Im doing my own flower arrangements in church and venue, and its going to take me a good couple of days (around 20 large arrangements) but i wont be doing the bouquets, i really dont want the pressure. Arrangements are one thing, they look fairly decent from a distance even if you mess up, but bouquets are alot more difficult to get perfect and i'll be busy doing other things the morning of the wedding.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0

The tescos finest ones are gorgeous. My fear would be tesco dont have the ones i want before my wedding or i mess it up. I think for those reasons i might just go to a florist but keep flowers to a minimum.0

Well, I would aviod the ferns for a start because you kept them in water and they lasted, try keeping one out of water and watch the blighter faint before your eyes! The trouble with supermarket flowers is that they have been picked, taken to the warehouse, repacked nto bunches, transported to the shop and then sat under the shop lights and heat untill someone comes and buys them. It takes a while for bruising to appear when they have been knocked about so it wouldn't always be visible at the time of purchase but would be there when someone came to make them up. A florists flowers are ordered direct from Holland so are picked to order and transported overnight to be conditioned before going on sale in the correct temp and lighting for them, thats why the costs are different. Also the years of training that has been completed, to make your flowers look special.
People have to remember that these flowers will be photographed and on view for years to come, and I have heard of many a sobbing bride whose homemade plans went pearshaped and they had to make do on the day.
How very odd......... every single bunch of supermarket flowers I have had have lasted well in excess of 7 days while the last two hand delivered florist bunches I have had lasted all of 3 days before wilting.

Take them back, thats what I do, they come with a 7 day guarrantee (I phoned to check when a huge arrangement of Lillies and Roses arrived and within 2 days the roses had started to rot at the head) and get them replaced:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
it that Alfred Angelo 1136? That one was one of my favourites:rotfl:TediousPhoenix wrote: »I made my bouquet and the button holes and saved quite a bit of money.
If you do you'll need to buy rose wire, ribbon, peal-head pins and take a look at some videos. I got my flowers at New Covent Garden flower market.0 -
I hadn't a bouquet as such- I carried 3 lillies wrapped in some of the green material leftover from my dress. My wedding dress was unusual- a forest green colour, so decided a really simple bouquet would be nice. Don't think it cost more than a few pounds either.0

Try a local college that does floristry courses they might be able to do something proffessional but at a fraction of the cost.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120
