got weeks mixed up ~ payday next week not today!!!

Options
i have some how managed to get my weeks mixed up and now realised that i have another week before getting paid. :( I have a well stocked food cupboard and freezer ~ my problem is the kids lunch boxes and breakfast.

i have one loaf of bread and 3 bagels in the freezer, nothing to fill them with so any ideas for their lunches would be great, the bread won't last long as they both have toast every morning nothing else.

I have £3.59 left in my purse so can get a few things!!

  • Have you got any chickpeas in your cupboard? I love this houmous recipe for lunches http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-onionhoumous.html?opt=rlunch.

I quite often make cheese scones for lunches instead of bread. They're really easy. I use this recipe http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/cheesescones_1287 but use 50g of cheese and a pinch of mustard powder. I've not made these but they look nice too http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-tomatoeyscones.html?opt=rsnack.

You could also do pasta or couscous salads for lunches, it depends what you've got in really.

Cut the toast, give them cereal. Then you have bread for sarnies. Simples.

Why don't you put up a list of what you do have? Any tuna, corned beef etc in store cupboard? Could you make hem soup? Are they allowed to take flasks (if you have them that is).

Do you have the ingredients for twinks hobbits? Or other type of tray bake? Also what about making pasties or quich or sausage rolls for lunches? Have you any savoury biscuits left from Christmas?

  • i have tuna, pasta, cous cous, yoghurts, fruit, flour, sugar, bicarb etc... and a small gammon joint in the freezer that i could cook and slice if desperate...

the cheese scones look nice and thye would like them, they often cold pasta salads not sure if they are allowed flasks but that would help alot as i have loads of frozen soups.

if you have eggs, flour and milk available pancakes, or drop scones make a good easy breakfast - you can make the pancake mix the night before so they're quite quick to make, porridge, baked beans and scrambled eggs etc make good breakfast alternatives. Pasta salads can be good for lunches - with cut up hot dogs, sweetcorn, cucumber etc. depending on what your kids will eat (or how much peer pressure they get for not having a standard sandwich!)

You also freeze sarnies, as long as not got any mayo or salad in them, so cheese, ham is fine to freeze :)
  • Do you have eggs?

    Egg mayo sarnies

    What about Spanish Tortilla Recipe

    Stuffed pancakes.

As my nan used to say if there's an egg in the house there is always a meal:T

It might take you a while, but if you'd like us to give full advice, you'll need to post every food item you have in ;)

From what I have read on other threads, the kids who take in pasta salads, pasties etc are the envy of the other kids.

You could mix tuna with cous cous for one day and pasta for another. Cook gammon and save a little to make quiche with? Can you make bread?
