Hi
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice, I have attempted to grow some potato bulbs in a grow bag and I think I have done it wrong.
I filled the grow bag with soil and put the 3 bulbs in (as this is my first attempt) the roots are growing a bit and the top is coming out of the soil. Was I meant to just put some soil in the grow bag and plant, then keep adding soil as they were growing (somone else told me this)?
Thank you for any help

Your compost will probably sink a bit over time anyway. So you should have some space.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Anyone grown Vivaldis? I know they are second early so I was assuming 12 weeks til checking if they are ready to eat, but mine are flowering already (sown 19th March). We have had gorgeous sunny weather here and only 1 frosty night since they were planted, I've been watering them of course as it's been so dry, so will the good weather have sped up the growing process?
Am going to have a peek at my Lady Christls this weekend :-D (that sounds a bit rude doesn't it!!)
Will be great if I can start harvesting some a bit early, my last batch of seed potatoes are due to go in next weekend so will be nice to free up some space. Currently have 25 poly pots around the garden... and there'll be another 10 or so before I'm finished! I just hope I've staggered the planting OK!0 -

My side path looks like a forest  the greenery in the tubs has grown, and grown, and grown...it's now about 3 1/2 feet tall and still growing/spreading in all directions! Goodness knows what I'm going to do with it when I eventually harvest the potatoes as my garden's far too small for a compost bin - does anyone know if it can be fed to chickens, in small quantities of course?
My heart says "not worth the risk".I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -
got my Earlies up about a month ago, and my Mains about a 8 days ago. Out of 30, I'd say about 23 are up. Unfortunately, being disorganised at the time, I mixed up all the labels on the seeds and would not know which of the 10 varieties I'm growing!!0

I'm new to tattie growing this yr, and I thought I'd planted mine too deep - 6" or so, but out of the 30 tubers I put, 23 have come up (there's still hope for the others). How deep did you plant yours? The books say to water in v. well once planted and then leave alone till the come up, or is it something like, water every 7 - 10 days?? (can someone correct me on this, pls?)0 -
I drench mine every couple of weeks if we haven`t had any decent rain (we haven`t) I use 2 gall for a yard run0

I water daily while we're having this dry weather. Potatoes are very thisty.0
