accused of fake card

Options
well i decided to go shopping this afternoon in cardiff and got told they wouldnt accept my student id for discount because its fake! its not! I tried to explain that was just the way they printed them at uni now but the girl at the till was having none of it. She even called security :( ive used it fine everywhere else ever since i got it back in september. The trouble is for some reason the uni overhauled our cards from the previous years - did away with what year we are in, did away with the expiry dates and printed their logo in black and white instead of colour - i admit when i first got it i did think it looked a bit odd but everyone else from the uni has the same as me. As i said ive never had any problems before and hopefuly never will again but now i feel somewhat wary of using it, i mean how the hell do i prove its real!

  • Go back to University Admin and tell them the cards are so rubbish that some retailers don't want to know them

  • Don't most ID's have a sort of holographic logo on them? I can't remember what it's called.

I know your frustrated but when selling age restricted products the cashier is at risk of being fined as well as the company so most are extremely careful, We've been trained that if you're in doubt don't sell.

I would do as the above poster said and consider getting your card reprinted.

  • a lot of retailers unfortunely wont accept individual college / uni's ID because of the inconsitency

it costs but the sure way to get your student perks is a NUS card

    hope this helps :)

    .

OP was wanting student discount, this has nothing to do with age restricted products.

Oops. That's what I get for posting when tired :(

  • Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do. I have a student card that totally looks fake (picture was so out of focus that you can't even see what gender I am! And it's 4 years old now so rather faded.) I've been lucky but I'd go for the NUS card if you think it will carry on being a problem.
  • I'd contact the Student Union to let them know the IDs are rubbish - and the company Head Office and suggest they employ people with more tact.

Then I'd get an NUS Extra card.

The assistant was only doing her job,you think it looks dodgy-so did she!
You could get a note written by the uni on their letterheading confirming these I'd cards are genuine, and pop into the shop and ask to see the manager and explain your embarrasment at being called a fraudster. However I think that students deserve just as much respect as everyone else,I don't think there is a tactful way, particularly if challenged,to say,"we don't think it's genuine"
Which shop was it?It wasn't hmv was it?

You have not been accused of anything OP, just that the shop used their right not to accept your card.

The problem is your university and how they issue cards. While you're in the office getting it sorted, you could also ask where the English department is, so they can give advice on paragraphs etc.

Perhaps Freddie you could check out evening classes as well. The tutor will explain the difference between "your" and "you're".;)
