Question about electric bill...
Hi all,
I am confused over my electricity. I was with southern electric.
I moved out on 4th Jan, and the account was put back in the landlords name. I recieved no forwarding bill or anything from them, so I checked online on the account, and it said in credit by £295.
I have been paying £81 per month. I spoke to someone who said the credit started amassing as of 28th September 2010, and that they are waiting for the final bill (Aug 28th to Jan 4th) before they can do anything about refunds or bills.
I asked if any electricity I used from aug to jan will be taken off the credit, to which they said yes. I just don't understand how I am in credit by that amount? If I pay £81 per month direct debit, should it not be more like £250ish for the period end of sept til jan 4th?
I guess I am just wondering whether I am gonna get a huge bill or a small refund lol. God I hate utility bills lol!

Did you supply a closing reading on 4/1?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You should be billed only for the amount you used.
Hopefully you provided the supplier with your outgoing meter reading when you advised them you were leaving?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Yeah the estate agent supplied them with it, and I have forwarded photographic evidence of the readings lol, and the estate agent is trying to find out why they are unable to close the account. They say the meter readings are wrong - should begin with a 4 not a 2, but the photo is right there plain as day lol!
So they will deduct usage from the £295? I personally think they have been skanking me outta money. £81 per month for a small one bed flat, empty during the day 6 days a week, energy saving lightbulbs, no tumble drier used, water heater turned on for only 30mins a day for a morning shower, storage heaters not used except for a couple of months. According to them, my usage during last winter (Nov 2009 - May 2010) was the same as this summer. Hmmmm...0 -
What did the last bills end meter reading start with? a 2 or a 4?
Be careful what you push for. If they are expecting a reading starting with a 4 and the one you supplied starts with a 2, then they might bill you for going round the clock
(put probably not, which is why they are delaying billing)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

They were my last readings lol0 -
Never trust an estate agent or landlord to do this, it's not their job or their bill-take your own reading and submit it yourself.
If you had submitted regular readings, then your DD would have been revised down accordingly at the time. The DD may have been initially set far to high, possibly based on a previous occupier's usage- which may bear no relation to your own. Sounds like all your bills have been (over) estimated, and so a substantial credit has built.
Now you have a situation where the actual reading is far lower than the estimated last one in their system, so the computer rejects the actual reading as false. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
How long was you at the address for?
Does the meter serial number on the bills you received for your old address match up with that actually on the meter (I'm guessing the photograph of the reading also shows the meter serial number on it?)0 -

They were my last readings lol
Then it doesn't make sense they would be expecting a reading beginning with 4.
Make a complaint. (to the supplier)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I lived there for 20 months. For the first year I got lots of lovely letters addressed to the previous occupiers saying they owed thousands lol.
The electric meters were all in a separate building with other flats, so I didn't have access to it. I got the estate agents to go in and send meter readings a couple of times a year, then got bills that said they were based on actual readings after.
I just don't understand the readings or what they mean lol.0 -
Hi Guys,
just wanting some advice, We moved into a one bedroom flat on the 26th November so not even two months.
I have just had a bill frm Scottish power for £300.00 that means £150 per month.
I do realise it's been a very cold winter but considering we don't use the emersion to heat the water this seems very expensive and was just wondering what other people's bills are like.
We do have storage heater's but no tumble dryer or anything that uses alot of electricity.
my usage is as follows:
7705kwh domestic economy 7
5684kwh domestic economy day
total 13390
If anyone could help would appreciate it.0
