My grandma has been in a nursing home 1wk we want to move her for various reasons. She is self funded and is classed as temp for the first 12wks we have rang the home the manager was very stroppy and said we have to give 28 days notice then hung up on the phone, my grandma are us have not signed a contract as we was only given it to us yesterday so is it right that it is 28 days notice.

If you haven't signed a contract, I can't see how they could hold you to anything.0

Mercedes,
What are the circumstances of your grandmother moving into the home? Was she moved in there from a hospital?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Did the hospital carry out an assessment to see if she was eligible for fully funded NHS continuing care, or did they just tell you she would be a self funder like they normally do?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Thanks for your reply,s grandma seemed settled yesterday everyone seems lovely at the new home we actually took grandma there for a full day a couple of days ago to see what she thought and what a big difference.Yes grandma was assesed in hospital she is just residential not nursing, we just told them that she was self funding as we knew she had over the £23,000. The only thing that i think is wrong is that she has to still keep paying £79 a wk rent for 12wks because if she doesn,t like it she would be classed as homeless during this time its stupid really as we know and they know that she couldnt go back home.We feel happier now shes moved im glad we did it.0

Mercedes,
It would be worth checking to see they did the proper assessments. Social services and the NHS are very good at telling lies to people and saying they have to fund themselves when the reality is they have primary health needs and should be funded by the NHS in full. If you need to know more just reply here. There is also the following thread which you might find informative:-
