I use a dock (battery or mains) with speakers for around the home listening. It's so convenient that I'm considering a second dock eg a Bose for the living room. Only if I ever migrated away from the Touch to something say, Android based, I'd lose this neat solution. Hence I'm all ears if anyone has a way of neatly placing other portable WiFi media players on docks - without cables and with charging.

The touch looks like nothing can be better, I must admit. But being on tight finances, I find it difficult to justify the expense.
How does it connect to the internet? Will it connect to the home wifi automatically? And will it connect to various BT hotspots?

Sorry buglawton, couldn't really advise. Lossy, compressed music doesn't do it for me for listening at home. I use Slim Devices (now Logitech - spits) wireless media players to stream FLAC music around the house.
