Alternative to iPod Touch

Is there a viable alternative to the Ipod Touch, an MP3 player that will connect to wifi to download podcasts and have a reasonable display to see exactly what one's listening to, without spending Apple money?

The about to launch Cowon D3 looks interesting. There's the Samsung Galaxy Player too, but the initial reviews I've seen aren't gushing.

    Initial Cowon D3 reviews aren't great: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60650

Looking at that review and those for the Galaxy Player, I'm wondering why Samsung and Cowon are finding it so hard to get it right. My HTC Desire is a phone, not a music player, but the music playing applications work fine. The sound quality isn't up to the standard of a top quality dedicated DAP, but it's reasonably good (I can certainly live with it perfectly happily for music on the move) and the interfaces work well.[/

Archos has released some new tablets with newer capacitive screens called 'internet tablets'

These look promising but I'm holding out for more reviews.

These aren't to be confused with Archos's old 'home tablets' which had the old resistive screens that are pants.

Owning a Touch, I notice how many socking stations are out there, e.g. I got one for around £25, mains or battery, allowing loudspeaker listening about the house.

So no matter how many alternatives there are, how many of then integrate with neat docks?

I guess it depends what you want it for. I prefer to listen to a proper stereo system at home. The DAP is an acceptable compromise for use on the move, but I'd only use a dock for charging.

Likewise, my Orange SF plays great using PowerAmp.

Cowon do release products that aren't ready, or even particularly good - the O2, V5 etc.

Only their dedicated DAPs - i9, J3 etc. do the job well.
