Mortgage house and contents insurance

Hi, I haven't posted on here for a while, so please be gentle with me.
I moved house back in March but I found out my old mortgage company who I am no longer with (can I mention them here?!) have continued to take the insurance premium from my account.
It's taken me a while to notice, but £22 has added up to over £100 for insurance on a house that I no longer own and no longer live in.
I called them up and they were't very helpful or sympathetic and basically said write a letter in and see what happens - but it is "unlikely you will get your money back". I couldn't believe it... has anyone else experienced a similar thing or can offer any advice?
This is the second run in with them I have had, there was an issue over the redemption penalty too - a massive £2,300... I will definately not be purchasing any of there products again..
Thanks
Nick

Although you have paid monthy for your building insurance it is actually a yearly contract and if you close it in less than a year then the premium is not pro rata. eg you may pay 5 months premium for 3 months cover. Having said that most insurance companies dont apply that rule and just accept the premiums to date.
Its very much in the lap of the gods whether they refund the extra payments but if it is one of the 'major' companies, write in as they suggest, my guess is that they will cough up for the sake of 'good will'.
Good Luck...........;)I have retired from a career in Financial Services........Thank God. Any advice given may be as a result of senile dementia so dont take it too seriously.......0
