What that letter is in effect saying is that you weren’t insured due to a clerical error by your boss, that is no defence anymore than me making a clerical error and not insuring my OH’s car will get her off if she gets stopped

I’d follow it up with a letter to the police saying that notwithstanding the above letter you have a statutory defence under Road traffic Act 1988 S143(3) which you intend to rely on if prosecuted

Thanks Vaio the letter you refer to, should I send that now or wait until I receive some sort of summons?

Send it now and hopefully they will drop the case so you won’t get a summons.

He did however seem keen to press charges on my employer when I explained that I was on the understanding that it was insured.
