HELP!!Laptop not charging!!!

I am on my HPG60 laptop and have just plugged it in, it is all switched on, but it says its not charging!!! There does not seem to be damage to the lead, so what could be wrong? Is there a way I can get it checked out before buying a new lead? The plug sockets are ok as I tried my hairdryer in it....its been showing 37% power left for a while tho....any ideas please??

Might well be the power supply.
If you have no way of checking that, with a meter for example, how about changing the fuse in the plug for starters

I don't have a spare fuse. I wondered if I should take the power supply to my local comet. would they be able to check for me?
  • Take the battery out, leave the power supply in...

If the laptop still works it must be running off the power supply, so you know that is ok...

you can check the lead by powering up without the battery in.

Could be faulty connection, duff battery.

If you need a fuse you should be able to swap one from another appliance that you are not using.

Hmmm.....I was just about to go and ask a neighbour for help in changing the fuse as I am disabled and unable to reach an old redundant plug to get the fuse from and checked the status of the charging, it has now leapt up from 37% where it stayed for ages and showing as not charging, to now 55% and charging??? Maybe I need to keep an eye on this before I start changing plugs or buying a new power supply, bearing that in mind tho, could it be more likely the power supply is on its way out? Thanks for all your replies:)

i had this on a hp laptop it wasnt the power supply it was dry solders on the connector to the mother board i resoldered it and it lasted a little while i think the cable just flexes it each time you plug it in

trying to solder on a mother board is not an easy task nowadays

i ended up chucking it in the bin it was 18 months old so a bit out of date anyway

apple get round this by using a magnetic field charge so there is no plug to keep pushing in and out

I just checked the points by taking out the plug and now it is saying again that it is not charging....not sure what to do, now at 79%, so it is climbing? The laptop is about 3 years old, so are you saying I need to solder something or just get another power supply? I guess it can't be the fuse now if it is sometimes charging!!
  • that was only the case with mine but it used to get a rough time dropped stood on falling out of cars etc

if its charging then it maybe the battery do you leave it plugged in all day

can you try using it without the battery in like someone else mentioned

I usually have it plugged in and only use it at home, tho I was using it earlier for a while on the battery and then noticed it was at 37% (it had been plugged in and fully charged the night before) I have also got into the habit of once its on it stays on until I knock it off for the night. Not sure using it unplugged will do as that will only wear down the battery and not solve why it isn't charging?

Sorry just re read the post and I could try taking out the battery and see if it runs on the mains?
