Which vacuum cleaner should I buy?

I have not registered on this board before, but wanting to quickly share our experience. We have three cats and a dog, carpet, laminate and tiles. The only vac to handle all of these conditions is the Sebo. In recent years we have used 2xDyson (lasted 2 years and 18 months), 1xPanasonic (lasted 18 months)and 1xHoover(lasted 9 months).
So please consider the Sebo even though it is less well known - it is a professional bit of kit. The roller adjusts automaically to cope with all surfaces and it has not become blocked/clogged. It has the best filtration on the market. Check some of the indenpendant reviews for the Sebo X4 extra - never a bad review. We got ours from barmey.co.uk - highly reccommended.0 -
I think the LG vacuum cleaners are very good and completley under rated which is why they are so cheap and value for money!
I had a Dyson DC07 but didn't like it as it didn't pick up more dirt than an Electrolux which was 1/3 the price.
Then I got an Electrolux but the belts kept breaking.
Then I got an LG Cylinder & that's been the most maintenance free & reliable so far!
I paid £20 inc p&p for my LG off Ebay.0 -
Miele Cat 'n' Dog here as well - best vacuum I've ever owned. Amazing suction and great on our wooden, laminate and carpetted floors (we haven't fully decided on our flooring strategy yet in case you're wondering!).0

The Oreck upright gets my vote, we've got one. Lightweight, but very powerful pickup.0

Dyson DC 14 for us plus DC01 for the garage and cars! Just keep filters washed and no problems!!!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

We've just got a Dyson DC14 Animal.
It's absolutely brilliant - we have a 7 stone German Shepherd who loses hair like nothing I've ever seen! On top of that, I have very severe asthma, with a particular allergy to dust and dog hair (dog came with OH when we moved in together 3 years ago!).
We had an old Panasonic cleaner for the three years before, but finally decided to bite the bullet and get a new cleaner.
We fill the dust container thingy up every two days with dog hair now - it's easy to empty and I now live a better life as a result of our lovely Dyson!0 -
Another vote for the Miele Cat and Dog - I've always use Dysons, and found them good but very cumbersome and heavy. When we moved into our new house I wanted something light enough to cart up and down stairs and store easily, but powerful enough to suck up the hair from my four very furry friends (and moderately furry boyfriend ...). I eventually got a Cat and Dog on recommendation from this very forum.
The Miele is brilliant, everything I wanted and more. It makes light work of lifting hair out of carpets, even if it's all rubbed in, because it has a powered brush in the head. It's so light I can hoover the stairs without breaking sweat and there's none of that nightmarish mushroom cloud of dust you have to endure when emptying the cylinder of the Dyson! There are loads of attachments and it came with 2 sizes of head, and a great long hose. I cannot fault it - pricey (about £180 I think, although as ours was from John Lewis Online I'm sure you could get it cheaper), but still cheaper than a Dyson.0 -
I have a Dyson DC07 and the main problem has been the belts breaking.
However, used it today and a 2 inch section of the brush roller flew off. I don't have insurance and have had the machine for about 2/3 years. Phoned Dyson help line and a lovely lady said they would send a replacement roller today free of charge.
I will wait to see what arrives, but if they do send one free, I will be giving a big thumbs up to Dyson. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Top class vac, it has 6 different suction setting's, uses a bag also came with a spare bag, long tube, long cable, its just a great vac, and they say a 15 year life, think i got two year warranty at no extra cost.
I got mine from qed.co.uk the cheapest i could find at the time.
My OH has an upright dyson and i hate it!!0 -
