Apparently this scheme has so many exclusions that claims are unheard of really.

Just say to them, forget your £80, I'm going to do my own for £20, if you want to be helpful and print out the bit of paper on your computer that's up to you.

Thats what i have done! i think the posters above are a bit quick to jump down the throat of the garage! it is a large national chain not some poorly run outfit. They havn't pushed the product but for my peace of mind would have it done!

As posted I researched and thought it was expensive so i have told them that and therefore as part of the deal i want the check but wont pay what they are asking....??

    .
    £2008 for 2008 club No. 286
    Jan wins - £213, Feb wins - £55.80 March Wins - £27
    (left to go: £1712.20)

Many of the " National Chains " are poorly run outfits, read through this forum for evidence.

Anyway, it's your money, if you are happy to spend it a dealer that tried to scam you...fine by me.
  • im loving the freehpi.co.uk and then you pay £20 :S

You are naive to think that this garage isn't ripping you off.

Don't you think they hpi every car they take in?? (They would be naive if they didn't!)

Just because they are a national chain doesn't mean they aren't going to rip you off. Just look at the well known national names that crop up here/on watchdog/in the papers etc.
  • ive been on the hunt today for a car. ive seen a few models i like and have asked to see paper work including HPI if thats what they state, (all cars hpi checked) out of 10 fourcourts ive been to 2 turned out a bit dodgy with paper work regarding HPI.

hpi print outs (as with all print out from the internet) will have time date and the site's name on the bottom of the print out.

today i seen two so called printout's with no date internet site time on them photocopied (can see the black line of the page edge where the so called original would have been) had just the reg number (no model or trim) and had underneath the reg had not reported stolen not invovled in any accident
no outstanding finance. no other details no site logo nothing. one had the garages headed paper with a photo and same wording as above.

those two garages werent able to produce the V5C as it was offsite at the time.

walked away. on to the next.

not one dealership/garage said i had to pay for a hpi to be done through them. if they did and said that would be £80, i'd jump back in my car and on my way laughing.
  • I work in a car dealership, and if the customer who is purchasing a used car from us, wants a copy of the hpi check, we give it to them free of charge, along with a mileage verication certfificate
