as I understand it, its been the law for a few years now that cycling on the pavement is no longer illegal, as long as it's done responsibly

How did you take my comment from using humour to illustrate that cyclists on a road with a cycle path annoys the living !!!! out of me (even though im a cyclist myself) to mean that I want disabled people and war pensioners to drive on the pavement....either i am a lot less funny than I thought (likely) or you need to get a sence of humour...(possible)..

Ha ha! Oh dear - having a bit of a "sense of humour failure" are you? How ironic to complain that I'm taking your humour too seriously when that's exactly what you've done with my post! Did you really think that I thought that you were saying that war pensioners should drive their cars on the pavement?! :rotfl:

Regulation 64 (of the highway code) is short and to the point, stating "You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement".

This is a "regulation" and therefore an actual law of the land that must be obeyed :-

cycling on a footway became punishable by a fixed penalty notice – usually £30 – under Section 51 Schedule 3 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Back in the days of the last government I believe a minister said that is was 'unlikely' that anyone would be prosecuted for cycling in a sensible manner on the pavement if the could reasonably show that they felt they were unsafe in traffic.

Which basically means that you have to put up with yobs riding on the pavement but if you try it yourself there's no actual guarantee that you won't be nabbed.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

I use the pavements when there is a cycle path on them. Sometimes I use the pavement when there isnt because most car drivers dont give you the room they should o the road.

What really gets my goat is cyclists on the road when there is a cycle path for them...

Pay road tax and Id be happy, else use the CYCLE PATHS.

Oh yeah and what about pedestrian who, dispite the massive white painting of a bike, still decide to walk along the cycle path and give you evilsas if you shouldnt be there...next time i see them walking on a cycle path im just gonna run them over...

    RRAAAAAHHHHHHHH>>>>BANG

    Thats my head blown..
    G

what about when i pay road tax(which has nothing to do with the roads) but my car is sitting on my drive?

It IS an offence. Where I live, Plod has erected signs claiming they will fine cyclists who flout the law. In reality, cyclists whizz past the local nick safe in the knowledge that it will take more than them to get Plod off their backsides i.e. a motorist doing 5 over the speed limit. Elderly people have suffered terrible injuries c/o pavement cyclists. One was knocked flying and ended up with a broken hip.

This works.....wait for the oncoming cyclists to draw parallel, then yell "BOO" at the top of your voice. Most fall off...shame.

I've got no issue with the cyclists on the road who ride safely and sensibly, however it's the riders who don't seem to be able to maintain any kind of lane discipline that cause the problems for the ones who cycle properly. Veering from the side of the road into the middle of a lane and back again is not only highly annoying when you're driving behind and deciding when it is safe to pass but also so dangerous why would anyone want to ride right in the middle of a lane in rush hour?? Secondly, the cyclists that ride on the pavement full pelt then suddenly go straight onto the road without even looking as I'm about to pass is likely to cause an accident because either I won't have time to break if you do it right in front of me, or I won't be able to swerve round you if there's a car in the other lane going by me.
Last rant, to those cyclists who preach about their right to be on the road and car owners should respect the laws/rights etc how about you remember the law of stopping at a red light on a pedestrian crossing? The times I've seen a pedestrian crossing at a green man nearly get taken out by a cyclist who decides to just carry on through beggars belief! Anyway, apologies to the many cyclists who ride safely and visibly, just needed to get that off my chest!
