They aren't travellers, in the sense that they are not organised (they appear to be separate people with the same idea). They aren't in big motorhomes (although one turns up more intermittently) but big vans. I am not sure if they sleep there at weekends, but the vans are there all week.

They aren't homeless either, in the sense that they aren't down-and-outs. One of them also has a white van and is clearly a builder of some kind - I think he doesn't sleep in the 'house' van at weekends but it still sits there. I think they are just people who decided it's cheap living in vans so we are going to go to the nearest piece of unrestricted parking to London and set up there.

they are probably 'contractors' working on a site nearby and by sleeping in their cars/vans are saving money, they will have washing facilities of some sort on the site.

I know some people that do it when working on the power stations, they get 'digs' allowance of say £30 a night but save it by sleeping in the car/van(makes good sense)and good facilities on the sites,showers/canteen etc

are there any big projects going on near you

could be onto something there. I can't link them to a particular site but there is always stuff going on and at least one is a builder. I think given the length of time they have been there (3-4 months but probably more) that this might actually be a semi-permanent lifestle choice for them.

depends what site they are working on,

some of my jobs have been 20 weeks or more,(no I sleep in hotels:D)

but if they were working on one of the olympic sites it could be a lot more

  • The poor sods probably have no where else to sleep and you want to make their lives even more difficult, I used to work with a bloke who live in his car for a while after his parents booted him out, he nearly didn't make it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Unlikely. As I mentioned at least one of them doesn't appear to stay there at weekends (but the van does). They all clearly have enough money to buy fuel for their generators, pay car tax and insurance, eat etc., and it's not like there isn't this little thing called local housing allowance. They aren't homeless people who have fallen on hard times, that much is clear.
you want to make their lives even more difficult

I have no objection to them staying there on the odd night. But they are taking up the limited public parking that is used by people from all over the area to access the park. Their generators buzz away while people try to sleep if they are up late. Their chemical toilets stink when the weather is warm and you walk past. The wider vans take up over half the road. They aren't terrible people, but they are inconsiderate.

OP, from what you've described; they are doing no harm. They are not littering, being rude, drunk, mis-behaiving etc. Let them be and worry about something else more important.

What gives you the right to hound them via the authorities to get them to move on ? Please do tell ? Are you the local busy body into everyones business as well ? Have you actually spoken to anyone of them.... maybe raised a little idle chat etc ?

Get off your (possibly mis-guided) moral high horse and interface with them. They are doing nothing wrong... deal with it.

I agree...I mean we all live in our chosen place and have to put up with disturbances occassionally sometimes repeatedly but flip whats the point in moaning about it?! I don't always get parked outside my flat but I get on with it...I could look about me and see a million things am not liking but I got two options, put up and shut up....
