We're soon heading off to New York for our first time and could do with some advice on the best options from getting from JFK airport to 48th Street & 8th Avenue (Not far from Rockefeller Center).
Is it easier to get a taxi or bus it?
Many thanks
Dave

Probably depends on the time of day.
You can catch the airtrain from JFK to Jamaica Beach, then transfer straight to a subway that will take you to 7th Av with 51st. This would cost $7 per person.
Taxi will cost $45 plus toll plus tip. But saves messing about with suitcases at the subway station.
see the JFK site for more info:

We got a taxi. It as so simple and cost a standard $49 including the toll.
Hope this helps.
Have a great time.0 -
Hi O
Just come back and paid 45 dollars as mentioned before - this is the fixed fare into Manhatten. Not fixed on way back - cost me 85 plus tip. Have a great time.JD790 -
I was in NYC a couple of weekends ago and my return flight was from JFK. I toyed with getting the subway and then the AirTrain but would have had to change subway at least once so, to save messing about with luggage on the subway, opted for a taxi. The driver offered me the meter or $45 + tolls fixed price from the Downtown Manhattan area. As it was rush hour, I went for the fixed price and it just cost the $45 + tip. This space has been intentionally left blank0

Taxi is best on your arrival but we got a bus direct from Central Station to JFK on the way back for about $150

I used supershuttle https://www.supershuttle.com. Takes you straight to you hotel and a little cheaper than a taxi0

went 3 weeks ago and if you are travelling light and arrive at the right time of day the subway is an absolute doddle.
I was worried about getting from JFK to Manhattan but it couldnt have been easier0 -
I travelled with my mother and 2 children. We used the airtrain to Jamaica which costs $5 per person or $25 for 10 journeys (this can be shared amongst a group, ie $25 for a return for us all). We then changed to the subway to Manhattan, $2 per person or do as we did and buy a weeks pass for $24.
The journey took around 50 minutes and was very easy.0 -
Great! This works out at $34 for two people sharing a shuttlebus (up to 11 people) one way.
I take it you had to book separate journeys (to/from airport)?
Cheers
