Why would you need to wash a duvet once a week? Washing the duvet cover should be sufficient, with the duvet washed once or twice a year.
I don't even have to wash the Duvet cover all that often because I use a top (flat) sheet! I notice that a lot of Brits just get a fitted sheet and duvet cover, but having a sheet makes for less laundry and you don't have to struggle with a duvet and little buttons...:beer:0 -
I don't know that I would actually wash it once a week
But it would be nice to be able to do it, just whenever I wanted
It would probably be cheaper to just replace it, than to have it cleaned twice a year, so a big washer would be great.... but a grand for one  Think I'll stick to replacing the duvets

Really quiet cant hear it at all till it spins. 7kg load 1600 spin lights up like a space ship. delayed timer and loads of different settings. £297 if you get it from Redhill Appliances. Unfortunately they could not deliver it soon enough for me so had to pay £40 to get it from currys.
we just bought

Using a sheet cuts down the insulation from the duvet, because the sheet prevents it from, as the old Slumberdown ads used to say, 'hugging you close'. Personally, I only use a sheet in the summer, so that I can throw the (summer-weight) duvet off if it gets too hot. I suppose it's no less hygienic than having blankets on top of a sheet (and people certainly didn't wash those once a week), but I just prefer being able to wash the duvet cover as well.Trishh wrote:I don't know that I would actually wash it once a week
Thank goodness for that - I was getting ready to call in Kim & Aggie!Trishh wrote:It would probably be cheaper to just replace it, than to have it cleaned twice a year, so a big washer would be great.... but a grand for one  Think I'll stick to replacing the duvets
TBH, it probably is - I think our local laundrette costs £8 for a duvet wash, and I bought my last KS duvet for that from Wilkinson's!0 -
My parents have just bought a Bosch washing machine and they're really pleased with it. It's very quiet (even at a high speed spin) and washes/rinses well.
To get the lowest price, try online sites. Even someone like Comet.com will usually sell machines cheaper than their shops. Also on sites such as Boots.com you'll get Boots Advantage points (if you're already a card holder) which usually more than cover the delivery charge.
As for convincing your wife, don't forget that all Bosch machines come with a 2 YEAR guarantee (most other manufacturers only give you 1 YEAR - I wonder why ??) so there's a good chance you'll save in repair costs.
Also, I know someone who repairs Washing Machines which makes he would recommed for good reliability and, at a reasonable price, he said "Bosch; no contest".0 -
I so agree !!!!!!!!!!!!! My OH went round to the then Hoover "Area Office" with a giant plastic bag full of (real) dirty nappies, all warm and steaming (sorry folks) courtesy of our newborn twins because we had a brand new machine which kept going wrong and they could never come to mend it in under 3 days and were difficult to get on the phone and rude or stupid when you could. I vowed never to have anything made by Hoover in the house again, and haven't !:mad:BrandNewDay wrote:Hoover are of the devil. I bought a new Hoover washer and dryer in February. They both broke down within six weeks. They needed multiple visits from a repair person (Comet). The repair guys all told me that Hoover is crap and that I should buy a Bosch or Meile. which is what we have done. We gave the two machines away on Freecycle and bought new when we moved house. That is how much I hate Hoover. I never miss the opportunity to spread the word!0
