New Washing machine - any advice?

I'm now on the hunt for a new washing machine as the bearings in the old Indesit are very noisy - it's only a short while till a complete failure will occur.
Anyone know the results of the recent Which Report?
I need:
1. At least 6Kg load (preferably more)
2. Delay timer
3. Price - £300 max, preferably £250ish
Workmates are warning against Hotpoint, Indesit, Candy, but I quite like Hoover - are they as bad?
Bosch are good but would need evidence to convince my wife the extra is justified.
Thanks

You can get direct drive ones now. They don't have brushes and they're supposed to be quiet.0

I have just bought a new hotpoint. I must say I am quite pleased with it. Really quiet cant hear it at all till it spins. 7kg load 1600 spin lights up like a space ship. delayed timer and loads of different settings. £297 if you get it from Redhill Appliances. Unfortunately they could not deliver it soon enough for me so had to pay £40 to get it from currys.0

We too bought a Hotpoint recently for £250, been using it about 4 months now and its quiet and does a good job.0

Definitely a vote for Bosch. If you have a search through this thread, you'll find that question's been asked before, and consistently Bosch, AEG, Siemens & Miele have been recommended. Consistently also, Hotpoint, Hoover and Indesit have not.
Best Buys in the Sept 2006 Which? report were the Miele W3240 and the Bosch Wbb24759 Logixx with 70% (but they both cost a bomb - £800 and £900 respectively). As well as 2 other Bosch and 1 other Miele machine in the list, the other makes in the best buys were AEG (3) , Siemens (2), Candy (1) and Zanussi (1). Not a single one below £300 - cheapest was the Candy CL2127 Smart at £305.0 -
The Miele I saw had 10 years parts and labour guarantee. That might save you a bit on repairs.

Hoover are of the devil. I bought a new Hoover washer and dryer in February. They both broke down within six weeks. They needed multiple visits from a repair person (Comet). The repair guys all told me that Hoover is crap and that I should buy a Bosch or Meile. which is what we have done. We gave the two machines away on Freecycle and bought new when we moved house. That is how much I hate Hoover. I never miss the opportunity to spread the word!:beer:0 -
What size washer (drum) would take a double size duvet? Or can you not get domestic ones that big? My current washer (zanussi Xtra capacity thingy) takes the single duvets ok, but not the double. Would be great to be able to wash it once a week!

I think there's only a few - the new big Dyson, and I think one of the Miele ones, but you're looking at paying the best part of a grand for them. Why would you need to wash a duvet once a week? Washing the duvet cover should be sufficient, with the duvet washed once or twice a year.0

If you have the space a top loader (American style) is great. BUT they have limited settings but that suits me. By limited I mean you select hot, warm or cold for the water and short, medium, or long for the cycle and slow or fast spin.0

American-style washers are great in that you have more control over putting things in/getting them out. Like, if you leave the lid up, it will fill and agitate, but not drain and spin. So, you can let things soak overnight, then drop the lid in the morning and the cycle will complete. And, they're a lot faster. Like, a great big load will be done in maybe 40 minutes or so. But! The agitator will beat your clothes up. They're not as energy efficient, either. You'll have to use more water.
If I were a gazillionaire, I'd have one of each - just to have one for when it would be nice.:beer:0
