Brand Loyalty?

Out of curiosity does everyone have a particular brand that they use and will not use anything else.

For example i don't mind what washing powder i use. If its on offer regardless of brand i will buy it. I tell my friends about the offers i have seen at the supermarket and i will often get the reply 'i only use Ariel' or 'i only like bold' etc. When i ask them how much they pay for a box and they say £8 they could buy a box of Daz for £3 on offer. It doesnt make sense. All washing powders do the same job of getting your clothes clean. I would rather save £5 and use a different powder. Same goes for cleaning products and fabric softener.

Is everyone else not bothered by the brand just the price? or am i such a bargain hunter that even if i prefer one brand over another i will still buy the one thats on offer just because its cheap (even though im not a big fan of it)

  • I always have to have Heinz beans, I've tried other brands but I just prefer the Heinz taste.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
  • Hiya, I tend to always stick with certain brand names only on certain stuff - ie Cadburys chocolate (on offer of course!) for me/hubby, but the kids dont mind/notice so much so I get shops own cookies/muffins for lunchboxes unless the brand names are on offer.

I like the Small n Mighty washing liquid cos the gorgeous smell lasts days, but if something else is on offer I will buy it, like the recent Daz liquid and the Ariel. Though I stocked up on the S+M when the huge bottle was £5 recently too :) I know some people use a particular brand if they or family has sensitive skin etc, but lucky for us we can use whats on offer.

I always get whats on offer re things like tinned tomatoes, rice, pasta etc, usually shops own brand, but buy branded only if its on offer.

I find the children wont know a McVities biscuit from a shops own, so I buy shops own, or stock up when McVities on offer.

Do agree with you re the saving though, I buy whats on offer rather than pay more for a favourite brand, but keep an eye on the brands too and grab a stash when the brand name is on offer.

I love Dove or Johnsons body wash and stock up when its on offer, but if we are out and I need some, I will buy whatever is on half price that week rather than pay double for a brand I like better.

    xx

  • certain things i will only buy the brand i like, TP, coffee, things like that

i make my own laundry gel, but i can understand why people wont switch brands because its cheaper, the smell of a lot of them is horrible to me, so fake & chemical, and some are kinder to your skin than others, so when someone finds one they like, they stick to it

With Soap Powder/Gel Persil irritates my skin to high heaven, I end up with angry lumps all over my arms/legs so no matter how cheap it is I just can't buy it.

I normally buy Surf Liquid, it's on buy one get 2 free alot and usually by the time I've finished one lot it's on offer again. Same with Comfort concentrated fabric softner, the big one is always on BOGOF, so just wait and buy a few.

Things like toothpaste etc I buy whatever is on offer that week, normally one of the Colgate Whitening ones.

As others have said has to be Heinz beans and I prefer Kellogs Cornflakes.

Recently switched to Tescos own brand of Gold Blend and I don't think theres much difference, Nescafe was getting far too expensive.

There's a few things I can't/won't switch...DH insists on Heinz beans and head&shoulders shampoo, if I don't use one of those "enamel care" type toothpastes my teeth get sensitive, I prefer Kelloggs cornflakes/crunchy nut and I've got to be careful what washing detergent I use because of DS's eczema.

For everything else, I pick whatever's cheapest.

Brands I always buy, when they are on offer:
. Branston Baked Beans. I don't need to buy anymore as got 11 tins at home!
    . Dowle Egberts coffee
. Oatibix - thank you Morrisons for having it half price last week
. Beer - either K1664, Becks, Stella, Carlsberg Export, Grolsch. Depending what's on offer. I buy the bottles as on ww and not tempted to drink a whole 440-500ml can
    . Options hot chocolate

Regardless to anything else, its depends what's on offer.

OH will only eat Heinz Tomato Soup - doesn't eat any other type of soup.

His other 'must-haves' are Vosene Shampoo (which thankfully is now available in most £shop type places) and he's really picky about spaghetti. I can never remember the brand but know what the packet looks like :o Only spaghetti though - any brand will do for shaped pasta :p

He used to be fussy about loo roll - would only buy Andrex - now we buy whatever 'premium' brand is on offer. Have tried the own-brand stuff but find it doesn't last as long for the same £spend.

The only brand I can think of that I'm 'loyal' to is Diet Coke - has to be Coca-Cola as I've tried all the others and they are too syrupy for me and Pepsi is well .... peppery :p

Still only buy when on offer though - which it usually is :D
