Pets in the ceremony

  • I think it's a great idea! I would love to have my cats in the wedding somewhere but unfortunately you can't really take them out like dogs, so I'm asking my sister to make figurines of them to put next to the guest book :)

i love that idea! Would have loved to have our cats involved - but they are crazy... loveable but mental animals

I think that sounds lovely, would love to have my cat involved in my wedding but she doesn't like a lot of people - plus she's mainly black and molts a lot, lol! At the end of the day it's your wedding and should be how you want it to be - not what your parents think it should be. I'd say go for it x

I was wondering if people could give me their views on having pets involved in the ceremony.

I am getting married in July 2013 and i love my dog to pieces. Quie a few people have asked what we will do with her on wedding day and everyone expects us to put her in kennels. However i refuse to do this as she is a rescue and it would stress her too much.

Anyway i love the idea of having her deliver the rings to us at the right part. The church we are getting married in has two aisles and by the time we get married we will have another dog so thought that it would be nice to have each dog come down a different aisle, both carrying a ring in a pouch around their neck.

However my parents and also the oh's parents said that it is a stupid idea but it is really bugging me as my dog(s) are my family and its not like i expect my nephew to not to be invited.

What are everyones views on this?

I still need to ask the minister if she would mind but i know that she is a dog lover herself so dont think it would be too much of a problem.

I think its a sweet idea and would certainly be a conversation piece! There's a couple of small problems though - one, even the best well-behaved dog can get excited and forget what theyre supposed to be doing and two, you dont know what the new dog will be like.

Maybe you can simplify it and have someone the dogs know and trust walk them down?

I keep winding up my OH asking if we can invite the cats, hehe!
  • We are having our wee dog coming along after the ceremony for some photos. He loves our neighbours who look after him sometimes, so will stay with them in the day and they will bring him along (they are coming at night!), and then him take him back to theirs

Well it's not something that I would do but if you want to then go for it! Our local church does an animal blessing once a year so I can't imagine that having dogs in the church would be a problem :)

Same here! How many do you have? I have two and I really do wish we could get them involved somehow but I think a weird building full of strangers would just make them panic. Maybe you could stick photos of them on the tables or something like that?
  • I'm an officiant, and I've had MANY weddings with dogs; they are really members of your family, so it's totally appropriate for them to be there! Just be careful of the heat and having too many small children around your dog if that makes him or her more excitable.
