Thank you for all the replies
My dog is very very smart and would learn what to do after being shown once - she is a collie and although can be nervous with strangers adores people she knows and since she would know everyone that is coming then she should be ok.
My oh isn't really fussed either way, he can see why people may think its silly but then he adores her too so would like her included aswell.
I am trying to think of all my guests but cant think of anyone has an who as an allergy to them (except from me :rotfl: )
I will speak to the minister when we see her and see what she says0 -
I think as long as your dog(s) will be happy in the church and with the people I'd go for it! How lovely to have them to be part of your special day.
Not sure they would enjoy the reception disco too much though.....Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
i just keep thinking of the wedding house- the one where the dalmations are involved.
now i love dogs, but for me it would be a noIs a married woman!! 23rd July 2011 Best day of my life!

Collies are extremly clever I have one myself she knows her left paw from her right! I'm sure she would be easy enough to train to bring the rings keep a couple of treats in your bag lol.
We have 3 dogs not sure what we're going to do with ours yet.

It's your wedding, don't let anyone influence it, if it's what you want!
I would definitely have a dog there if I had one, my dog was always more important than anything else.0 -
When I met my man, I had a dog and I always thought she would be involved in my wedding, probably walking down the aisle with the BM's with a lovely ribbon lead.
Now we have 3 dogs (his, mine & a pup) and have decided not to have them at the wedding. The reception will be in my parents garden and the dogs will be staying in my parents house, so they will be around and we will have photos taken with them but-even though they are good with people and will know the vast majority of people there-I wouldn't want them around all day because I'd be worrying about them and they would be my main thought, when it should be our wedding that is foremost in my mind (IMO). However if I didn't have the opportunity of pictures with them, I would be very upset because they are important to me.
However, as others have said, it's your wedding, you do what you want to do!

PS-on a vain note-I also don't want dog hairs all over my dress0 -
Our dog was at our wedding day - like you, everyone I would trust to look after him was at the wedding!
We got married in a hotel where we had sole use of the whole building which made it much easier as he could be left in our room when it wasn't appropriate for him to be around (i.e. he wasn't at the ceremony as I was piped in and he howls along with pipes so I thought it might ruin my entrance (!), he wasn't around for the meal or for the dancing). But he was around our day and in the photos, it was good for him as he had loads of visitors and mini-walks though the day (he got a huge walk in the morning to tire him out before it all kicked off), but somewhere to relax when he would get under people's feet.
Your day, your dogs - go for it! You know what your dog(s) will tolerate and be able to do - as long as they will be happy and not stressed then it is up to you (anyone who doesn't like or is allergic to dogs surely can cope when they pass them in the street...a large church would be no different?). My biggest concern was paw prints up the front on my dress, but as a 'dog lady' I wasn't even that bothered about that!0 -
I love this idea - definitely go for it. I love my dog to bits, but she wouldn't be very good in the ceremony, so instead I'm having a few pictures done with her before I leave for the church, once I'm in my dress and everything! (My mum is already terrified about paw marks on the dress!)

I think it's a great idea! I would love to have my cats in the wedding somewhere but unfortunately you can't really take them out like dogs, so I'm asking my sister to make figurines of them to put next to the guest book0

Aw, we had our youngest dog in the church with the vicar's blessing - he "sat" at the back with one of our neighbours who then took him home with her after the service (we had fireworks and also she wasn't keen on being a single older person alone at the reception!).
I was totally terrified about the service so seeing him was really reassuring and, for both of us, seeing him both on the day and in the piccies afterwards was one of the best parts!
I'm not sure about delivering the rings but that's probably because he's a naughty border terrier lol but please don't worry about anybody else's opinion - it's your day and those that matter to you will understand - you may get a couple of people making snide comments or sarky looks but 9 times out of 10 they'll be the people not worth bothering about anyway! Some people create their own storms....then get upset when it rains!0
