Electric Central Heating - Please Help!

Hi there, we have 11 radiators, however only 1 on in the lounge (and the 3 with the faulty valves). All the others are switched off. However, as I now understand it doesnt matter if on or not, as they are still using electricity as the boiler is firing up...
One thing worth mentioning I think. The electricity supplier told us to set the clock times to catch the low tariff periods (i.e. 5-6 a.m. 1-3 pm and 7.30 - 10.00 p.m. times vary in different areas). We were told to set the afternoon times to make the house warm for when we arrived back from work. However, when we get home the house is cold (the heat naturally disperses, although the cats are very happy).. The boiler man however advised not to set the afternoon time for it to come on and then if you are particularly cold when coming home from work to over-ride the switch for maybe an hour or so to warm the place up... I think that is a better solution for us anyway which we'll try.
It is sometimes hard to get the right advice from everyone and in the end you just have to try different things and make your own mind up eh? but good luck and ask the installer of whatever you have fitted a lot of questions.. You have to be warm as I believe Edinburgh can get a bit chilly at times... p.s. Your flat sounds very nice as well - hope you'll be very happy there..0
