Dishonesty at Work - Advice please

I think you hit the nail on the head there Jake :-) You've a lot to learn, due pretty much to your age and nothing else.
The general consensus is probably going to be that most people hate office snitches, there's always one and they always make life miserable for everyone else. Don't be that person.
As others have said, go in and do your work and go home, don't worry about what other people are doing, thats their business.
Live and let live, you play your game, let them play theirs!
In short: if they aren't bothering you, don't bother them

Probably better to say nothing - as other posters have noted, it's easy to get it wrong.
It's also worth bearing in mind that management won't hesitate to betray you, if it suits them. And what better way to ensure that you lose the support of your colleagues at a crucial time, than by letting slip that you were the snitch?"Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
I'd agree with what other people have said, nobody like a copper's nark, it's not worth the possible hassle. Moreover, once management know you are a nark, they have something over you.0

Is it part of your job description to take note of how many sick days other employers take? If the answer is yes, speak to HR. If the answer's no - butt out..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I agree with everyone. Don't be a snitch. If these people doesn't effect your performance than just leave it be. From my years of experience, these people will get caught one day. As a Malaysian saying goes " How smart the squirrel in avoiding one day he will get shot". Go ahead do your own work and go back to your family and forget about.
I also believe in Karma if you do good you will get good in return. If you do bad then you will get bad in return0 -
I dont agree or disagree with the majority....well everyone...
Its not about whether you life will be made more difficult or if people will hate you for bringing this issue to management...most companies who pay your wages expect you to act in the best interests of the business.
If you really believe that what these people are doing is wrong then go raise a grevance or have a quiet word in HRs ear. Have the corrage of your convictions no matter what anyone tells you, you cant put a price on a clear concience.
If its a minor bug or you dont really care then stay shtum..
Some people see dis-honest sick days as stealing from the company. I dont by the way I just see it as people being bone idol...If you were to use that annalogy would you not report someone for stealing??
Personally, when people in my team are off sick it creates me alot of work so if i thought they were taking the !!!! I wouldnt be happy. I doubt I would make enough of a fuss to get anyone in trouble, but i promise you they would know not to ask me any favours.
Ive strapped myself to the board, Ladies & Gentlemen start your engines and let the flaming begin!!
GOne day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -
My concern here is that the OP might be being influenced by someone else in the work place, someone who like's to get people wound up. Someone who winds people up then stands back to watch the fireworks.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You're right it is unfair that these people are skiving off and getting the same pay rise as you but that's just the way the world is. Suck it up and concentrate on looking after number one. Unless monitoring attendance is a part of your job I'd just ignore it.
HR probably know all about it and accept it as part of the business, or perhaps they are too incompetent to see what is going on. Either way they aren't going to thank you for bringing it up. If the company cared about this sort of thing they'd already be doing something about it.0 -

Orrin makes a good point. If the OP takes their concerns to management what they're saying is the staff who take lots of sick days are incompetent, their managers are incompetent and HR is incompetent.
Not a position I'd want to find myself in..................
