porting mobile numbers: O2

was advised by O2 customer service in late December that it would be possible to port my mobile number (from current contract) to a new network AND to port in a different number to the existing O2 contract.

Obtained PAC code from other network but O2 now saying that previous advice was wrong and that you have never been able to swop numbers on a contract: ie if I port out the number from existing 02 contract it will terminate the contract (which still has a year to run) and incur charges.............. I don't understand why you can't just change the numbers!

Once you port out a number the acc is closed, that the way the network (all the networks) are programmed. There's no way around it, you've never been able to swap numbers, sorry...

Yup. Unfortunately the original advice you were given was incorrect. If you use a PAC code your contract will be terminated and you'll incur termination fees, no way around that I'm afraid.
