Orange Broadband New T&C's

Hello,

We’d like you to know about a few changes to your terms of use that’ll come into effect on 12 December 2006. We’re telling you about them nice and early, just so that you’re aware. Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything.

We hope that you’ll never want to leave us. But if you do, you’ll need to give us 30 days’ notice, so that we can tie up all the loose ends before you move on and ensure the process is as smooth as possible. If you’re still in your contract period, you can continue to enjoy all the benefits offered by your home broadband service. If you decide to leave before the end of your contract, you’ll have to settle any outstanding charges on your account. You may want a MAC code which will cost £12 to cover the processing fees. Don’t worry, we won’t charge you for the first one. Other than that, there’ll be no charge to close your account.

The easiest way to pay your bill is by direct debit. You can set this up by visiting the member centre. It’s as simple as that. It makes sure that all your bills are settled on time.

If you choose to pay using a credit or debit card, you’ll pay an extra £1 each time (this is just to cover the additional handling costs for these payments). Please bear in mind that a £5 charge will apply for payments that are not made on time. If you experience any difficulties in paying your bills, please give us a call in advance so that we can help.

Is it me or is it time to get swiftly off to any other provider............

Mark

Why? Seems reasonable enough to me.

I got this lovely email today too. I was planning on leaving Orange anyway but will definitely do so now. I can't believe they are going to charge for issuing a MAC code! They say the first one is free, what's the betting that the first one they give out won't work! I have read on various forums that they have already been giving out dud MAC codes so I won't hold my breath when I try and get mine!

Also note that they are putting the charge per month up by 1 pound if you have a credit card direct debit
  • Well, I agree it is time to at least look elsewhere. I was with Wanadoo and when Orange took over officially they said that they'd be trying to give everyone a bit more speed. Silly thing is, they claim to have always been the same company but the speed has not improved, they have had service down twice (though only admitting it once) and has in fact faltered a little (unfortunately I had a record of this but the pc it was on died... if I get it up and running again I'll provide some form of proof!); I can't say that my previous experience with Wanadoo was like this. I also get the sneaking feeling that contention ratios have worsened though nothing proven yet apart from more erratic sign-on behaviour. They are up to something I think, and it is just a cheek to send out such a cheery email that contains nothing but bad news for users, especially with the MAC fee, perhaps they are pre-empting people wanting a change because of their slowly faltering service.

Processing costs for a MAC? Seems a bit silly when it costs them nothing to issue it!
