Sounds good. My SIL 2B went to a wedding recently where the couple called in a lot of favours an had a fairground/circus themed reception with jugglers, unicyclists, fire eaters, people on stilts, magicians etc. She said it was really good.

I also went to an evening reception recently where one of the guests bought along a magician - he was really good, just went round dong card tricks -everyone loved him! :)

That sounds great but you'll need to get him some public liability insurance to cover yourselves!

Not sure how much it would be, porbably around £80, but may be more if you want him to do fire related things
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • fair point picklepick i had not thought about that only just had the idea will have to look in to that a bit more he used to work as a circus teacher wonder if i could get them to do the wedding cost insurance would be in the price and poss mates rates.

    Unicycle entertainment, yes.

Fish and Chips, cheap and nasty.
Do you really think that your guests dressed in all their finery would really want greasy fish and chips.

I think I would be saying, cant come, off to a funeral.:rotfl:
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

perhaps the smell from the fish & chip van may be an issue at a wedding?

would being around a fish & chip van for a period of time mean that your wedding dress/others people clothes may take on the smell a little?
  • I thought fish and chips sounds cute! I would personally prefer that to a fancy sit-down meal where everyone feels awkward because there are 5 different forks and knives, plus it's way more original. I saw a 'real-life' wedding somewhere where the theme was British seaside and it was really lovely and quirky - the groom's cravat had Union Jack on it! Anyway, if people are only getting fish and chips before moving on to the reception, they shouldn't be around for long enough to start smelling of it.

As for the circus tricks, I think that sounds really nice. As someone else said though, check out public liability insurance just in case! Your reception venue might be able to tell you whether you need it.

I think its a lovely idea to think of in order to do something different...although there could be issues with things like how many portions of fish and chips could be produed in the van to allow your guests to sit down and eat them together if thats indeed you want them to do...

You obviously know your family and friends and whether they would appreciate your style of hospitality...personally I would have no problem with whatever I was offered to eat at a wedding reception....but then Im grateful for any invite I get!....but as you can see by other posters comments it may not be to everyones expectation of hospitality...

Fish and chips can be done very well at a wedding and done properly with the right planning etc you will have a fantastic day....but do look into the costs and logistics of both the van and also your brothers entertainment before you set your plans into practice

I'm sure bargain seeker has considered how fitting it is for her wedding and it is what she wants for her wedding.

Everyone has diferent tastes, ideas and views on how they want their wedding, its all down topersonal taste.

I think it sounds fab, although not my personal choice!

Definately look in to the insurance side of things and check with the venue they will allow it!

Definately original and such a change from the traditional wedding breakfast!

I think it all sounds fab, just one thing. I know someone that went to a sort of "summer fete" themed wedding last summer. Everything was lovely with lots of bunting and bales of hay etc etc, but the food was a burger van style thing (only with nice home made style burgers etc) but there was one major issue. There were about 100 guests all in one long line for the van, getting hot and annoyed... You won't have everyone eating at the same time, unless you've got a super dooper fish and chip van.
