Was just washing car for MOT this afternoon and noticed a few cracks in front number plate, all i will say is "must have been son drove into something" haha.
Does anyone know will this make it a fail. if i need to replace it where would be the best place to get a number plate that isnt going to cost the earth in east belfast.

Any motor factors should do you a set for a tenner or under. You need to take the taxbook and id to buy them0

It will fail due to any cracks in numberplate - has happened to me!
Take it to a local garage as OP states above (or Halfords or equivalent) with your log book.Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860 -
I got one in Halfords and needed the log/tax book AND a photographic ID, eg Driving licence before they would give me the number plate!0

it would have to be a quare humpy examiner to fail an MOT over a cracked number plate.
is the MOT not supposed to test the mechanical/electrical components of a car rather than number plate appearance?
just passed my MOT a few weeks ago and the car in front of me had a back brake light out but the examiner passed him saying get that light sorted when you leave here....doubt a number plate would affect much in all honesty....0 -

I think a cracked number plate is merely an advisory, however if you have a 'failure' on your MOT, then they make you fix the advisorys too.0 -
took no chances and got a new number plate, car passed but have no idea if it was looked at.
Tempted to take of the new and put the old one back on and save it until next year in case "son" uhm drives into something again!0 -
I got failed for a cracked number plate. The same cracked plate that passed the previous two years. (Craigavon)0

Same here,my old Pug had a crack in the corner for years & it passed every time,I think it all depends on who you get at the MOT center.I got failed the other year by one examiner as the rear brake pressure valve had failed (just needed a squirt of WD40) yet last year the same car passed as the brake light on the passenger side was intermittent & the rubber brake pipes needed changing as they were starting to perish with a different examiner....
The are examiners at my local test center who are notorious for failing the car for the slightest thing yet others who are more lenient & who will just give you an advisory.0 -
Neighbour had his car failed for the headlight not being bright enough, took it back in next day with the same bulb and it passed. Easy £18 for them0
