Selling house privately

We're going to put our house on the market in the next few weeks but I'm reticent to pay an estate agent when I reckon we could sell the house ourselves. Maybe that's nieve but just wondering what the best way to go about this is other than sticking around sign in the garden? Main thing is we want to be on rightmove.
Any thoughts? Good / bad idea?
Cheers

As I understand, Rightmove don't allow private entries - must be an EA0

Only agents can upload properties onto Rightmove.
There a number of online agencies you could use. Try Google, or the search function here as there have been some threads on the topic.0 -

Am I the only one who sees the contradiction in these two statements?
Let me get this straight - you reckon you can sell it yourself, but you need guidance on what to do apart from putting a sign up?0 -

In the current market, a good EA is well worth paying for. Trouble is, the best way to tell if you've found a good EA is hindsight!
In many areas, you're unlikely to sell at all unless you're on rightmove. You're certainly unlikely to sell unless you're on some online portals - signs in the garden just aren't enough any more. Best bet if you really object to EA fees is the online ones. Do a bit of searching to see which ones have been recommended.0 -
Some times the people on here are so unhelpful and sarcastic, they are such know alls. Right you want to sell your house, well its just like selling a car or anything else. You decide how much it is worth (not to you, most people over value their houses thats why they are on sale for years) Then you advertise it for sale, how you do that is up to you, sign in the garden, word of mouth, news paper ad, etc. Then when you get some one interested it's up to you to sell it. Not difficult Ive done it but it can be time consuming, thats if you get a lot of interest, dont forget in these times PRICE is the key, gone are the days when you could sell any old broken down property. good luck

Thanks for the helpful comments folks. Found some online estate agents that will put your house on rightmove and some other sites but I need to get to bed now so I'll have a good look tomorrow.
Many thanks0 -
why are people so keen to have a go at posters? i would be peeved at paying a frankly useless Ea as most of them are 3% of my house sale
.....
plus try sarah beenys new site tippilo thats free
Where does this 3% come from? The OFT, in the last year or so, determined that average EA fees in England and Wales were 1.6%, and in Scotland 1.1%. How do you arrive at 3%?
Tepilo may be free, but nobody looks at it to search for property anyway.....0 -
If you put a good sign up in your garden then it will (possibly) be seen by people visiting the area to see properties advertised on Rightmove.
By all means cut out the EA but make sure you use a good solicitor.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
