Electrics blowing - and -How to use timer on Neff oven

Not sure if this is going to be an expensive lesson but................

I bought a new Neff oven on ebay from a private seller; the shop stickers were still on the front of the door, they said they had changed their mind about it. It has been installed in a new kitchen so it is only today that I have tried it after having it for a few months.

When it was switched on, the light above the temp control came on and I waited for the grill to heat up. It didn't seem to heat up very quickly and then I think it blew the fuse. Lights went out etc. I tripped the switch on the (also new) consumer board and the lights came back on, but the oven now doesn't seem to work; the light above the temp control is now not on.

I have searched here for some info and it seems likely that the element has gone. I have also seen a couple of other suggestions though. The clock might not have been reset or the timer might have been partly set when I tried the oven again. I was fiddling with them. (I am now at DDs house so cannot try out these theories).

I didn't get an instruction booklet with the oven so whilst I figured out the clock, I'm not sure how to set the timer. Can someone tell me how to set this or where to find the instructions please?

Sorry about the long post, but wanted to set the scene, in case someone can give me any more advice.

Thanks everyone

Thanks so far everyone. When I got in last night the clock was set and the red light over the temp guage went on on and the fan kicked in.

Tonight I switched on the oven, not sure if it was temp first or function first but the electrics tripped again.

Have set the clock again, selected the function and then the temperature and all is well at the moment. (I'm leaving it for an hour as I've read that this should be done before it is used).

Has anyone any idea why it is tripping the electrics please?

If it was 'new' when you bought it, then is it not still in warranty? Though I don't know if that would be honoured, as it is now on it's second owner? But surely worth a call to Neff to find out.
It could be tripping for numerous reasons-your second call should be to the installer.

Afraid I can't really help however it sounds like the exact same problem we had with our oven when we moved into a new flat, would work for a few mins but then it would trip everything off...the landlord said it was a known fault with my particular oven (sorry can't remember name) and he ended up having to replace it.... Hope thats not the same in your case, fingers crossed

AND - what is the size of the circuit breaker that is tripping - it will be marked in amps
AND - what it the kW rating of the oven - it will be marked on the inside of the door or on any documentation

    Fluff
  • Not trying to plug it into a 13amp socket by any chance ??

Most single ovens are OK plugged into a 13amp socket, but it could also depend on what else is powered from the same circuit.

If it has been wired in, there could be a fault in the installation.
  • If it is multi-function Neff, it will require 16A.

The reason why the electrics keep tripping is the clock / timer is faulty it is a known fault with these ovens i had the same problem with an oven that i had had for a number of years . the electrical guy that i called out said it was a fault that he had seen before.
You have to replace the clock to fix the problem. And thats not a cheap option .
