Vauxhall Warranty/Network Q Guarantee???
I have a Vauxhall corsa 1.3 ecoflex registered in March 2009.
It recently experienced problems and it was straight into the Vauxhall garage as it was still under Network Q (breaks, clutch and battery) guarantee and manufacturer’s warranty.
They came back to me saying the clutch had failed, causing consequential damage to the flywheel, pressure plate, and slave cylinder. That will cost around a grand.
The car has done more than 18500 miles so the clutch isn’t covered on the manufacturer’s warranty but is covered by the Network Q guarantee.
All good and well, apart from;
The manufacturer’s warranty won’t cover the other parts as they were damaged as a result of a part that isn’t covered.
And Network Q guarantee won’t cover them as they are not covered parts.
It’s my understanding that as a result of the clutch (which is guaranteed) failing, 3 other parts are damaged that need replacing.
Should these 3 parts not then be covered?
As if that’s not enough, the flywheel is out of stock and there is a problem with the manufacturing at the moment and was told to phone back in 2 weeks for an update on availability.
Am I wrong in thinking if a product has a warranty the company must have parts on the shelf??
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't see what 18500 miles has to do with it. You get 20,000 miles in year one after you purchase it, presuming it was second hand. If new, then you have much more warranty.
Consequential loss is a tricky subject. I'd sue if they didn't sort it out and give me a car whilst they did. That is what you are paying the Network Q premium for.
Think about whether they would be liable if the engine just blew up. They could hardly claim that they would only cover the 25p spring that was the root cause of the problem and even then, if that spring failed well before the end of its normal life, then whoever manufactured it would be liable as the fault would have been during fabrication I presume as wear and tear are ruled out.
Like all insurers, they may hope you just go away. However, I would hope they would see sense.0 -
Surely NQ comprehensive warranties cover comprehensively?0

They should be covered really.
The proximate cause of the damage was the clutch which was covered and this caused damage to other parts. Proximate cause in law states (at least from an insurance perspective)
Active, direct, and efficient cause of loss in insurance that sets in motion an unbroken chain of events which bring about damage, destruction, or injury without the intervention of a new and independent force. Also called direct cause.0 -

Cover whilst driving in Europe: Network Q Extended Warranty also applies when travelling in mainland Europe, up to a total of 60 days during the warranty period.
Unlimited claims liability: With Network Q Extended Warranty, you will receive unlimited claims liability up to the original purchase price of the vehicle, with no upper limit per claim.
Print it off and shove it in the salesman /service guy's face and ask Where does it say we won't pay for other parts ? if they still say no take it to trading standards as false advertising0 -
Interesting - Bearing in mind Network Q are now launching a lifetime 100k warranty onthe cars they are selling I think we will see hundreds of these claims disputes.
Think small claims courts will be inundated if interpretation of these by dealers isnt what is written on the documentation.0 -
Ordinarily it could be argued that it is the OPs driving style that wore out the part (clutch -consumable?) and as such it is not covered by the warranty.
But if the Network Q warranty is a comprehensive as suggested that makes it much more interesting as highlighted by the other posters.
I will keep an open for this thread. Good luck OP0 -
Fight for a free repair. If a clutch has failed to the point of damaging the flywheel and especially the slave cylinder it has basically exploded. That means it was defective at manufacture. The only time I've seen clutches explode which weren't defective is in motor sport - basically drag racing. When in normal use, a cars clutch slips when failing, it doesn't fall to bits and take out the flywheel and slave cylinder.0

have covered aprox 750,000 miles during my driving career and never burnt out a clutch. I purchased a pre reg 2009 1.8 petrol Insignia and apparently I am responsible for burning out the clutch after a mere 3,886 miles (absurd). I emailed the MD VX UK Mr Aldred (and the General Manager (Mr Harris) who promised to investigate the matter. The conclusion arrived at is that I am totally responsible and they could offer no assistance. The bill is £1624-19. As this vehicle is, in my view, clearly unfit for purpose I have been forced into the position of taking my local Network Q dealer to the County Court. If the court determines that there is any merit in my argument, I fully intend to post the result of the legal argument in order to assist others who have been subjected to Vauxhall`s wear and tear "get out of jail free card" I deeply regret buying this car and I hope that this will assist any undecided potential Insignia buyers with their decision. Incidentally, Vauxhall apear to have been forced by the ASA to revise its latest advertising over misleading warranty claims.0

I used to have this warranty.. not worth the paper it was printed on to be fair.
My trusty vauxhall Astra was purchased in October 2006 along with a 2 year extended network Q warranty (covering the same things).
Come September 2008 I had some problems with that car that should of been covered by Vauxhall, popped into the dealer where it was bought, they priced up the work, phoned vauxhall and claimed the car warranty had expired. When I finally produced the evidence that I was covered for another 10 days.. they said these parts werent covered and the bill would be a grands worth of work.
Took it to a garage in my home town, job done for £200.
Lesson learned.. dont buy a vauxhall from peter vardy or an extended network Q warranty.:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0
