I have a new problem with my PC.

It has been quite slick at loading web pages until recently. I have an annoying 5+ sec delay where I get a blue bar at the bottm of the page and "waiting for Http://...... "

I would be gretful for any advice you may have :A

Which virus checker do you use? If it's Avast: open the main user interface, click Real Time Shields, then Web Shield, then click the Stop button. Does that make browsing any quicker?

Any other pc's to try to rule out the connection?

turn off avira temporarily, if that doesn't work, what other security software have you installed - any 3rd party firewalls or scanners?

Have you changed anything in ie, tools, internet options, connections?

defrag will do nothing to speed things up, never does

  • Waiting for http://what???

It's probably an advert on the page and the ad server is slow to respond.

If you block the content from the ad server all will speed up again. How to do this depends on which browser you are using and from where the ads are coming.

Many thanks for your comments. Please be advised>
    1. I use Avira and Windows Vista
    2. I have only one PC. My laptop working via Wifi does not suffer the same delay when loading page. So I would discount my connection problems. I am at work at, shall try your suggestion re de-activating Avira test when I get home. I did load some updates from Sony - media player but that should have not affect internet explorer.
    3. Pages on this site take 5+ seconds to load. I prefer internet explorer, but I shall try chrome to see if that avoids the issue

We all have our favourite programs, I have been using internet explorer for many years and familiar with it. I am aware of the resource and security concerns with IE, but I have never had this slow page load issue.
