I just updated Avast its a program update rather than a database update.
On restarting the computer was slow and unresponsive to clicks, keys etc, and Avast had issues starting up.
I had to do a hard shutdown, uninstall avast in safe mode, then reinstall it.
Its all nice and fine now. So anyone getting this update request I urge you click no and uninstall and reinstall incase you get the same issue.
P.s no I not have a virus

What version did you update from and to?
I also have had no trouble updating avast, but there have been posts on the forum about updating problems.
More often than not a re-install is suggested if there is a problem with the update (which you appear to have had).-Scott-

I updated Avast on one pc no problem. However on the other one it didn't update properly and said there was a file missing. I rebooted and all was well again. Both pc's on Vista.0

Since the update release, I've done the update/uninstall/roll-back-to-earlier-version THREE times now, 'cos sooo many programs stopped working!! So I'm staying with version 5.0.677 till they (Avast) have sorted it out!
I'm following the thread on the Avast forum called:-
INTRODUCING:New Official Avast Program Update 5.1.889
on forum.avast.com site (I can't post links as I'm a newbie!!)
