CrazyNerd - I agree with your comments and your warning that it's important to get your eyes checked regularly but the problem is some of the schemes are pricey and when you weigh up buying lenses online and booking and eye exam separately at an opticians you can save quite a bit each month. Even buying lenses online through Specsavers can work out cheaper than their schemes and eye test prices.
I came across this article at New Year which opens your eyes (pardon the pun) but everyone is different and needs to weigh up the benefits of the schemes against other options.

I'm on the Specsavers package where I get monthly lenses, hydrogen peroxide solution and cases for £13 a month posted to my home. You need a new to use a new case each month to cut the risk of bacterial infections.
Anyway I've ended up with far too much solution so I rang and asked if I could drop the solutions for a while. This brought my direct debit down to £10 a month.
Package turned up today with just the lenses in and no cases. Rang up and asked and the lady said that if you remove solutions, they take the cases off you as well. She said I could pop into the store and buy new cases for 50p each.
Thought it was a bit silly as the using a new case is an essential part of keeping your eyes healthy and it takes away the convenience factor if I have to go to the store and buy cases. Here I go again on my own....0 -
The supply of contact lenses should cease as soon as your contact lens prescription expires - normally one year. Think yourself lucky that you have "got away with it" and get your !!! in for your checkup. Its nothing to do with payment - most direct debits include payment for checkups anyway, but even it it doesn't most fees barely cover the cost of providing the appointment. Its done to comply with legislation and look after the health of your eyes.0
