Hi, My friend has just become a victim of harrassing phone calls so she has had to change her phone number, she was on broadband paying a monthly fee (Contractual) anyway her internet provider has now told her she has to pay a 'moving home' fee to get reconnected! I think this is not fair as its not her fault she had to change her number and was wondering whether anyone else knows anything about this?

Its a standard thing; a change of phone number means the ADSL has to be activated again. Ideally, BT should point out the ADSL & "extra" services on the line will be disconnected - tends to be they don't. Activation charges for ADSL are quite normal, unless taking out a new contract. If they don't want to pay their existing ISP the £47, the go for another ISP. They could sign-up to Freeola for 3 months (free activation), and then migrate back to the original ISP (or a better one).
The only person your friend could get to pay for the charges involved, is the person(s) making the harrassing calls - eg through a court claim. Not likely to achieve that though.0 -
yeah thought so, you think they would give these people leeway though don't ya! Its not their fault!

On the same token, its not the company's fault either - they're there to make a profit

a simple renumber does not disconnect the internet (from a wholesale pov), the service will still be current on the physical line.0
