I got an FM transmitter and it's frankly crap. I my van I'm lucky enough to have a cassette player so use an adaptor thing (see #8). In the car the CD packed up so we got a cd player with a usb connection, I think it was about £100, they are probably much cheaper now.Nothing to see here, move along.0

I bought an FM transmitter for my wife to use with her ipod touch and the quality is fine - hardly discernible from when its playing on the docking station - it cost around £7 so was not going to be a huge waste of money if it did not work, and could still be used as a charger anyway.
When I was shopping around, some advice I received was that the reception can vary greatly between different cars - they work better on some than others. Also, it works better on some frequencies compared to others.
The only thing I miss is that we don't get the traffic reports kicking in, but I think more expensive models can handle RDS.0 -

Fluff, I have one at home somewhere I don't use which you can have, I think it's an iTrip. I'll try and bring it in tomorrow and leave it on my desk, you can come and get it.0 -
We don't even know what car the OP has. Just because there's no line in there may still be a better way (eg. CD changer adaptor)0

I have a specific adapter for my car stero which replaces the cd changer input and replaces it with a 3.5 mm jack. I just turn the stereo to the CD mode and then can play my music through the car. Crystal clear quality and really easy install.
This might be an option for you.
