Upgrading/Unlocking question...HELP!

Some urgent help needed...this seems complicated to me but I have a suspicion it isn't really.

Quick background. I got my wife a Motorola V600 on Orange Anytime 200 (or whatever it is called) last March, with the contract in my name. I'm pretty sure it's on an 18month contract because of an online deal I got (500 texts/month) but we were wondering about upgrading the phone now.

I had a look at the Orange site and there are a few decent phones that we seem to be able to get for free but there were two things I wasn't sure about.

FIRST. do we send back the phone we have currently?
SECOND, do we have to use the phone we get as an upgrade on the anytime 200 contract?

I ask the second question because I got a free Orange PAYG SIM on the offer last week and was wondering about using that on the upgrade phone.

Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

You will only get an upgrade at the end of your contract. You will have to Check with orange.
With an upgrade you get to keep the old phone. You could either let your wife have the new phone and put the PAYG sim in the old one for you use,or you have the new phone and you can put in your own sim card. You don't even have to stick to the original tarrif.

Thanks very much for the reply - sounds good, aside from maybe having to wait until the end of the contract.

I had a look at the website and (after putting in the account details) it presented me with a list of phones available with an "average upgrade cost" of £80ish - I presumed that was the average costs of the phones!

Maybe we'll just have to wait.
