Oh that's a shame. I really do feel that it was a very worthwhile thread for OSers.

I think I need to look up some spring like recipes but in reality I won't cook them till its a lot warmer and brighter. Maybe some valentines and Easter crafts would help.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

Good point - Christmas was a wash out for us so I am planning a really fun Easter for the DDs and we shall make Easter Bonnets and have a brilliant Egg hunt :) I am really looking forward to that :)

Does anyone 'blow' eggs? I have tried and failed in the past but would love to do that with the girls :) Any tips?
  • Nice ideas. I think I shall have a twig arrangement in a vase and make small decos to put on it.

Haven't blown eggs since I was a child. Do you have any chocolate easter egg molds? You could make papier mache ones, or may big ones round tiny inflated balloons.

Good idea - I might try to make papier mache ones :) Saves a whole load of stress with breaking real ones!!!

Thanks Frugal for starting this thread - got a few days off next week so its given me the motivation to get some spring cleaning done

    Hoping to do -
Major delcutter of bedroom - becoming a storage room so time to blitz those cupboards and get it sorted
    Paint bathroom
Get new curtains for the flat
Clean out kitchen cupboard and make a new list of what I've got
    Clean all the rugs
Re-arrange lounge furniture - bored with current set up
    Get some plants

Then it'll be back to work all refreshed lol :rotfl:
At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)

Great idea Frugal, I've enjoyed preparing for winter but reading this thread I think that we were all desperate for a reason to look forward to longer days even if it isn't much warmer for a while!
(I was thrilled to hang some washing out yesterday then forgot to bring it in last night, frozen jeans greeted me when I opened the kitchen blinds this morning!)
I'm thinking that I can maybe clear the clutter of boots, shovels and container of dishwasher salt that have decorated my back lobby for the last 3 months, and dare I put the de-icer, torches and scrapers in a still-accessible space but not where I see them every time I pass the front door? That will certainly be a start. I've already painted my bathroom over the last few days and it was lovely to have windows open throughout the house yesterday and today to clear the fumes. It's cheered me up just to start making plans thanks a lot.:T

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

    How cheery!

I was just thinking a couple of days ago when I went to feed the horse, this is the first time I've done this in BROAD daylight since I can't remember when - it's been dusk when I feed her for what feels like SO long.

Area outside the henhouses is still like the Somme, so I wasn't feeling very springlike this morning as it POURED with rain last night and the river at the bottom of the garden has broken its banks - luckily away from us as that is the way the land slopes - so we appear to have a vast lake at the bottom of the garden. Very pretty and lots of swans, ducks and Canada geese to make it look all rural like, but damn' soggy when you're strolling across to get layers mash out of the shed. On a happier note, my new wellies arrived today, so I can stride out with the best of them tomorrow.

It was so springlike this afternoon when I got home (and had to rush straight out again ) that I checked on the garlic I planted out at the beginning of January - and I have shoots about 3 inches long! Well, the garlic has shoots. But it made me very happy.

Before this gets moved to the Countryfile board :rotfl:let's bring it back to OS:

Save your croissant/strawberry/muffin containers. The clear plastic ones which have a bottom and a clear lid, if you know what I mean. Fill the bottom with compost; plant your tomato and/or chilli and/or pepper seeds. Water in and shut the lid. Place on windowsill. Free mini-greenhouse. Simples.

I have saved all sorts of containers but the ones that you mention have those fab attached lids which make a perfect propatator!!! I have saved a few of them for seed sowing :)

Wish i had got some garlic in but maybe next year :)

What a fantastic thread. Just what I need to get me thinking about a to do list, particularly this year as my son comes home for a visit in May from Australia. So things to do are
    • Decorate both boys bedrooms and fit new carpets
    • Replace the windowsill in family bathroom
    • Fit a new kitchen and redecorate family room
    • Paint the laundry and fit new shoe cupboards
    • Tidy up outside and get all the windows sparkly
So loads of work for DH to do and I have to say it makes my arm ache pointing out what needs doing:D:rotfl:(I will help with the painting)
