Why not something so simple as a numbered tag to ensure you get the right keys back, surely that would make more sense? one that gets given to you and the other that gets put on the car, along with a mobile number that can be called should you lose it and prove the car is yours.

None of the car washing service I've used have ever done this, just taken the keys. It'll make me think twice in the future. I am too honest for my wn good I guess and assume others would be the same.

Surely it would be down to them to make sure that you were not involved, not the carwash owner.

This is such an appalling story! I haven't used one of these services but I'm sure I would have just handed my keys over the same. I think it's perfectly natural to turn up, see that your car isn't there, and ask 'WHERE'S MY CAR!'. There's no reason for them to have moved it anywhere, surely.

Is it that they don't have a proper procedure at all, or is it that an employee didn't follow the procedure. I'm not sure which is worst for them legally, but both would leave them liable. They can't just hand the keys over to anyone who turns up and says 'Can I have the keys for the red Zafira....'.

I hope you get this resolved quickly, it must be causing you so much 'inconvenience'.

Do they have waiting room for your to sit when having your car done, if not then how can they say people always wait for their car to be done. I don't know any of these places where people wait as they are usually outside with a container nearby with cleaning stuff in.

I reaally feel bad for you that this has happened.

However, I've noticed that on most of the review sites for this car wash you've left them slating reviews (not hiding who you are).

If this does go through to court, it may not look as good on you if you do this.
