I've booked 2 weeks AI in portugal for a family of 5 (interconnecting rooms) to lap round the spring bank holiday.

The main selling point was 2 bathrooms :rotfl: since i'll have 2 teenagers. Booked it through Thomas Cook & it was £3600.
Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine. :)

all inclusive is definitely a good option with 3 kids. However another thing to consider would be campsites with eurocamp/canvas etc. we have done these trips in different locations France, spain, italy etc. we stayed in mobile homes and they usually have great pool areas and lots of things for the kids to do if you are able to get cheap flights it's another option to consider.

We got an all inclusive to Cuba in July last year for 5 of us in 2 villas for £3600 for two weeks I thought that was great value.
  • Think before you book AI. I have only been AI once (family of 4) other times been half board. For my kids it just wasnt cost effective. When they are away they seem to prefer bottled water which is always super cheap at supermarkets and shops abroad, and they never seem to eat loads because they're too busy playing in pool or they too hot or too tired!! My hubby and me were too knackered by the end of the day to take advantage of the AI drinks, so for us it just wasnt cost effective to go AI. Unless of course you get a cracking deal!! That said my kids are getting older now at 12 and 9 so I may go AI this year as they are getting better at eating and looking after themselves when their parents have a hangover!! :rotfl:

The Sarigerme, turkey Holiday village changes when it re opens this year. It is being split into 2 seperate hotels. The Palace will be the holiday village and the tropical is going to be Thomson family.
The 2 hotels together was just too big which was the main reason for bad reviews(hard to stop illness spreading when you are catering for 2000 people) and as most of the activities are on the palace side it would get very crowded with guest staying in the tropical spending their days in the grounds of the palace.

thanks for the the replies, please keep them coming, from other reponses it seems £3500 for all inclusive is about the norm... i mght well be able to get that down alittle if i go beginning of september. actually the more time i look the better and easier its becoming, as i see the same hotels coming up so can compare the deals.

    thanks once again

When my kids were younger we went to Crete in an apartment. The apartment was one of about 20 around a pool with a bar/snack bar. This meant that I could do 'normal' breakfast for us all - coffee, cereal, juice, then a snack - small pizza, burger, chips etc at lunchtime, and go to a local taverna in the evening. It worked out well, and the kids loved being able to go to the pool bar in their cozzies to order their own choice!

I have been AI once and found it very expensive - we don't tend to eat 3 large meals a day, and wouldnt drink the level of drinks required to make it worth our while ;). Additionally AI means you are tied to one place and to eat anywhere else is paying twice!
  • Hi there
Ive just booked an independant holiday through sunshine.co.uk, 2 adults, 3 kids (16, 14, 12) All inclusive for a week, including flights, tranfers, and a cost of £1475! I thought this was really good, BUT i am taking them out of school on 25th June for the week. My reckoning is that family time is as important as school time, and I used to be an Attendance Officer!!! I

Last year we (2 adults, 3 kids) went to Olu Deniz in Turkey a couple of days before October half term for £2,000 half board.

If I went again I'd go AI. We stayed at the Flamingo but if I went again I'd probably stay at the Karbel.
