Urgent appeal for dog in need of a home or will be pts :(

Just got this message via facebook from Babbington rescue kennels...

Hi all

Unfortunately this is another sad message. We have a dog in the rescue called Sox, those of you who volunteer to walk dogs or have rescued a dog from us in the last ten months or so might be familiar with him. As he has been with us for over nine months now. This is the longest we have ever had a dog in the rescue.

He has been re-homed once but returned as he does not get on with other dogs too well.

Sox is a lovely dog, he was chipped when he came into the rescue and Sox is his real name, so someone has loved him at some point and he sits and gives paw and is totally house trained, he has never made a mess overnight in his kennel and always waits until morning when he is let out. If Sox was a Westie or a Shih-Tzu with the personality he has, he would have had people fighting over him during his first week! But unfortunately people are shallow, and because he is big and brindle and a cross breed (we originally believed him to be an Akita cross but have lately discovered he looks exactly like a rare kind of Shepherd) he is routinely ignored by people looking to adopt.

We have tried everything in recent months to get Sox a home, he has a poster prominantly displayed in the reception, he has been on radio appeals and has had his picture and details in the local papers numerous times. Every time reporters have been to take his picture they have commented on how well-behaved and lovely he is. We have had him neutered as well in the hopes that this would make him more re-homeable but no luck.

Now despite our non-destruct policy, the time has come that the boss has decided that it is not fair to keep Sox in kennels for much longer. We cannot keep a dog in a small kennel for the rest of his life, no matter how many walks he gets per day and how much time in the playpen. It is just not fair.

So we are appealling one last time for a home for Sox, if you know of anyone who could possibly offer Sox a home please get in touch straight away. This is the first time I have ever had to say this but if he is not re-homed in the next few weeks he will be taken to be put to sleep and this would break my heart, and everyone's at Babbington as we all love Sox dearly. But he cannot continue to live the life he is living at the moment, it is just not fair.

Please get in touch if you can help. Sox does need a home without other dogs or cats, but he would love to live with a family and children over eight years (he is a little bouncy at times, this is the only reason for the age restriction. He is three years old and loves walks and toys.

Thank you :o(

I just had to post on the offchance someone could help...Babbington kennels is in Nottingham...

  • Oh god I hope someone will have him, we already have 3 dogs so I'm not really allowed anymore or I'd take in every stray I find. I hope he will find a good home to go to :(

I feel so sad now :(

God...they are all gorgeous. The one called Jez does it for me. But hubby'd kill me if I tried for another dog as we already have two.

Poor babies. I do hope they find loving homes.

Damn, why did I read this thread! :(
I don't watch the news or anything because I don't want to think about depressing stuff. I prefer not to know what's happening in the world! My dad thinks im mad, lol. Not to mention that I love animals...probably more than human beings.
Now i'll be thinking about these poor dogs until I eventually forget.
I hope they find a home with a loving owner.

You know that advert with Harvey the dog in that puts clothes in the washing machine etc... perhaps the people who made that advert could do a 'sox' one? Thinkbox ad.
