BA flight upgrade

Hello

I am after some advice.

Currently booked on a BA flight to NYC - World Traveller

Would really like an upgrade to WT plus, currently the price is a little steep so we have opted to wait and see whether any upgrades are available at the airport at a cheaper price.

Just wondering, will checking in on line or booking a seat in advance exclude me from asking for an upgrade ?

Anyone have any successful check in upgrade stories/tips?

Thanks in advance

Neither will stop you from asking the price of an upgrade at the airport. How much is the upgrade price at the mo? When are you travelling?

Wowzers, that is high! Keep checking, it may come down, although demand does tend to be high close to Easter.

The upgrade is not likely to come down, bookings are very high that week, just checked and for a flight back to London on 27 April the upgrade fee to WTPlus is £1203 one way! Checking in on line makes no difference to chances of an airport upgrade but I doubt there will be any at all, remember there are only 5 rows of seats

Keep checking your booking in Manage My Booking on the BA.com website. They reguarly do special upgrade offers - however these tend to be only for reservations made with them directly and not through a travel agent.

I would say a cash-paid upgrade from WT to WTP is only worth it if you can get it for around £100 more. WTP is better than WT but not that much better.

The last few flights I have made I havent even been able to upgrade at booking , it appears airlines have no problem selling the more expensive seats
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later

One issue is that many businesses are downgrading their travel polices from Business Class (Club World on BA) to Premium Economy (WTP) so often the WTP cabin is full so no upgrades are available from WT.

One advantage of this is that if you do book into WTP then there are good odds of getting bumped up to Club World as WTP is often oversold - and cash or miles upgrades from WTP to CW are reasonable.

Save your money, WTP is no big deal, same food as Y just a little wider seat with a bit more legroom. I would pay the £50 to bag an exit row seat instead. TBH it really should come under the trade description act BA calling it a premium product
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
