My Quattro has been good this winter. Well worth the extra.....I'd love a Quattro....…The four wheel drive makes it incredibly sure-footed in all conditions so if you can stretch to quattro you won't regret it. …..Go for the quatro …….…….buy a quattro,…..will definitely be going for a Quattro next time…….……..GO QUATTRO!!!!0

not sure about more fuel efficient but certainly more grip
alloys off ebay are probably easier & cheaper to source than steel wheels (assuming you can even get steel wheels for your car, don't think they are available for my S4), I think the trick is to buy them (and winter tyres) through the year rather than trying to get them in December once the snow has fallen0 -
i have a 2004 2 wheel drive a4 tdi avant and live high up in the cambrian mountains. i fit a set of gislaved winter tyres from nov. to april and so far, i have only been stopped by deep snow. traction and grip on packed snow and thick ice is not a problem provided i take it steady.
the quattro would probably perform better but youd pay a penalty in greater fuel consumption.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -

GO QUATTRO!!!!
Thinner tyres are better on snow.0 -
Germans always do the best cars..I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
maybe but thinner is certainly worse in summer.
Best plan by far is the correct width as per the manufacturer with summer or winter tyres depending on the time of year.
Not sure about that.
I've been through some real winters. the latre 7tys and early 8tys were bad.
My 66 beetle, rear wheel drive with skinny tyres beat any mini, 1100, 1800 fwd cars easily. A couple of years later my HC viva, rwd and rubber bands for tyres could hold it's own almost anywere.
Had a rwd BMW in the snow this year, hari kiri anyone???
Light car, skinny tyre = home for tea,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
