Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of driving this model this winter during the bad weather. We are keen to know how it handles in the snow. We're looking at the A4 Avant S line. Would love the Quattro but too pricey. Thanks

Have you considered the A4 Allroad instead? Pretty much the same, but better off-road.0

My Quattro has been good this winter. Well worth the extra.0

The 2005 A4 Avant 2.0 TDi that I had as my last company was a great car, until it snowed! Absolutely awful, the slightest of inclines and it just stopped. Putting some autosocks (google it or search on youtube) might have made a difference, I'd love a Quattro but as it's a company car I couldn't justify the extra expense over the 320d Efficientdynamics, would have been about £150 a month more.
Overall though, great car, would have another but don't expect it to work on more than a couple of cm of snow.0 -
I have an S4 avant so shed loads of power and quattro.
The four wheel drive makes it incredibly sure-footed in all conditions so if you can stretch to quattro you won't regret it.
Add some winter tyres from Nov to Feb and I think you'll be hard pushed to find more capable well balenced car
More boringly, build quality is good and they will cover starship mileages with ease. Mine is close to 200k and still uses no oil between the 6k/6m oil & filter changes.0 -
Go for the quatro I have the A4 avant sline and in the snow I drove my van. it really was that bad.0

I've owned 3 Avants, 2 front wheel drive A4s and the latest one is an A6 quattro.
The front wheels drive models are hopeless on snow and ice. If that is important to you then get a spare set of wheels with winter tyres or buy a quattro,0 -
The wider S-Line tyres will mean that the car will sit on the snow/ice and just spin. The more basic models will often be better in the snow. The man without a signature.0

I don't have the A4 but have an A3 S Line not Quattro, it's rubbish in the snow and will definitely be going for a Quattro next time, should be worth the extra pennies.0
