    Hi

You are not going to get fruit trees to fruit this year; you would struggle to get bushes that produced much. Live is not like the TV makeover shows, they probably spend £200 to get a large tree.

They need a year to make enough roots and maybe set a few flower buds for next year. Officially, you should remove any flowers that do come this year anyway.

If you want something for this year, then get some bare rooted autumn raspberries and come late July, you will have crops until the first frost.

  • Hi Ras

    Thanks for replying :)

I has a feeling I might be being a bit optimistic just thought it was worth asking with them being so tall at delivery thought there might be a chance they had flowered last year in the nursery but I forgot they would still need time to get used to their new home.

I am planning on having these in pots on our decking at home, the house we live in is rented so I dont want to be putting them in the ground and then one day having to leave them behind, the 30 litre pots they sell dont seem big enough though I would have thought they would have needed something much bigger to establish strong roots?

ALso forgot to mention I have moved of the ideal site as they have bought this site ( http://www.gardenbargains.com/ ) which seem to be ultimately where this collection comes from, you can join their "club" for £20 a year and they then give you a 10% discount on all orders, upon joining they also send you £20 worth of seeds so seems fairly good value, they have some great stuff this is where I saw the grape vines :)

I wouldn't expect grapes to set any fruit this year, as most of the fruit trees, I think they need to grow for a couple of years.

I have read somewhere that someone had fruits from the apple the first year they planted. I will be happy if there are any, but also know that I should remove all the set fruit to let the plant to establish in the first year. It is the long term view that you have to take on this!

I bought a cherry last spring from Ken Muir and it didn't even flower. However, these trees are quite tall, I would say all of them are 5ft at least, so maybe they will give something this year.

Thanks for replying :) I suppose the only way I am going to know for sure is to get them and see :) It is going to be very hard pulling off any first year flowers though :(

I would leave the blossom on & enjoy it while it lasts

Then wait & see what fruit you get, maybe remove all but two, then as they swell remove the weaker / smaller one in July [after the "June drop"]

I know my cherry [from Blackmoor nursery] finished up with 2 cherries in it's first year, one fell off, but at least I had taste of future fruit

  • I bought this set last week, and have put them in pots the look very promising, the cherry is just starting to bud :j
  • Can anyone confirm if these can be "trained" to grow along a fence or at least so they are not sprawling out or is this not going to be conducive to a good crop?

Have posted this before i think but i have these tree's bought from garden bargains originally as others have said where this deal is actually from.

Planted using just normal multi purpose in cheap 40 l tubtrug type containers. Feed with general fertiliser twice a year and top up with compost every now and then.

Cherry and apple fruited in 1st year. Very very minimally. Company send instructions that they should fruit normally from 2nd year so hopeful of better crop this year.

No problems with them and take up very minimal room on patio. I dont know why anyone wouldn't buy these at £10 a tree or so.

This offer is back on this year in the Daily Telegraph and online. It's £29.99 for the trees and £8.99 delivery but you get 10% cash back via Quidco. The trees are the same as mentioned above 4 in total I ordered mine yesterday and it says 10 to 14 days delivery however the Victoria Plu, is Nov 2011 assume that is a mistake or at least they mean 2012.

I am in no rush to get them so fingers crossed they all turn up. Just wondered how yours have faired since buying them.
