Hi guys . I am in a bit of a dilemma. My car is on its last legs and I am buying a new car around 8k max. The dilemma is do I buy a safe reliable vw golf or a snazzy vw beetle? Any money savers out there have a vw beetle? Can I have your views please,? Hubby wants me to buy a golf (yawn) and I want a beetle.
There is nothing I can be, do or HAVE!!!!!!!!

Assuming we're talking about the new Beetle, not the 1960s one...

They're the same car underneath I believe? So if it's reliability he's worried about, there shouldn't be any difference. However I'd have the Golf as it's more practical and less gimmicky. Would you be able to afford a new-shape Golf for £8k?.0 -
no way! new shape golf about 12k. Went round a vw garage yesterday (very nearly got talked into buying a brand new beetle until reality kicked in). They offering 2yrs 0% finance. There is nothing I can be, do or HAVE!!!!!!!!

Not a fan of VW cars in general (though the Eos aint bad but overpriced) but there is no way that I would have a beetle unless someone gave it me and I was allowed to sell it straight away.
Can see no reason for wanting a tacky beetleAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

we used to have a golf which was great no problems with it at all, although some friends had recurring problems with window regulators, but we had sister in laws beetle for a month while they were on holiday and personally i found it one of the worst cars i have ever driven, the pedals were to close together the dash is really weired and because of the funny shaped roof there is not that much headroom in the back,if you want something a bit different to a golf why not try a bora they are same platform as golf but quite a bit cheaper.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Go the golf route every time. Diesel, brilliant engines
Ehmmmm! Better not let hubby see this thread! One of the main reasons for not wanting a golf is that there are loads out there and I know loads of people that own them! I want something that stands out! There is nothing I can be, do or HAVE!!!!!!!!

There are some on Autotrader
The cheapest at a VW dealer is £8,699..0 -
VW's are overpriced... they sell purely on the badge these days
Much better to go for a new-ish Skoda or Seat... essentially VW's underneath but much better value for money (and better looking in my opinion)0 -
Beetle is a Golf in drag. Same car, but just with silly styling and extra lack of room inside. Marketing persons idea of "crazy" I think.Happy chappy0

Well, from what I've seen of the two, I think the Golf is a well-built, dependable, practical car that's a lot of fun to drive. The Beetle sacrifices all this in the name of looks - it's handling is poor, it's an older chassis and has terrible headroom. It does, however, have a small pot to put a flower in. Which kinda says it all for me, really.0
