I've used Lidl's but can't remember the brand. It has a red-wine coloured label. I put it in a pot on a low heat, add a softened onion and thinly sliced potatoes on top - then just mix it all together when it's cooked - a bit like stovies. It's fine for a quick supper. I don't normally do tins of meat either, but for a store cupboard quicky, it's pretty good.0

I really don't like tinned meat. I will buy fish, such as tuna, mackerel, and anchovies, which are great storecupboard staples, but actual meat has always been unappealing for me.
Not sure why. It might be the one Fray Bentos pie I had as a child, which my mum vowed never to buy again. It was full of gristle.0 -
If you hanker for the old fashioned Frey Bentos taste - hunt down a butcher who knows what shin of beef is, and cook it long and slow in a casserole - delish! Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Never liked Fray Bentos, just that one time put me off tinned meat pies. I like your way, cooked in a slow cooker, then topped off in the oven with a pie crust. Can't be beaten! :drool:0
