How about making your own card, making a cake, making a romantic meal...?

I make my card for her most years (this year I've taken up oil painting, so I've actually painted her a "card" on canvas paper - that took a bit of preparation though, because oil paint takes days and days to dry, and a bit of secrecy to find somewhere it could dry without her seeing it) and I enjoy baking and cooking so the prospect of doing a 'special' meal appeals to me.

It's true, though, that words are free and simply waxing lyrical about how much she means to me and how I feel about her is massively important.
  • thanks for all these lovely inspirational idea,s!!
  • Well seeing how Valentine day is on Monday this year, me and my OH have taken a day off on holiday to spend it together. So quality time together and being paid for it, can't get better than that :)
Free stuff is GOOD stuff :p

This year my husband is doing something "romantic" every day up to and including valentines day. This is to "show" that he loves me ... as I am rather lucky as he is always telling me he does.
some are free and some cost a few £
    1. love note
    2. Email
    3. biscuits served on a heart shaped serviette (red ones left over from Xmas cut into heart shape) & cup of tea in bed
    4. Flowers and chocs (reduced priced ones...and just as lovely)
    5. wrote loving words on my back with his finger....sounds unusual I know but was fun working out what he's "written"
    6. whittled a heart shape out of wood found on a walk in the woods
    7. little love hearts with love messages on them (cut by hand)
    8. very large cardboard love heart shape with an arrow through it, painted red and silver (made at work during his break)
    9. will have to wait till later to find out what this one will be
My husband has thought of these all him self and spent his free time making them, which I find even more loving/thoughtful than buying something from the shop

You could take a few naughty pics and hide them in places around the house like in cupboards under the duvet etc.

If you have kids, choose your hiding place well!

me and my fella have a tradition of just making each other a card - he always does his on MS paint and it's usually a scene of us somewhere together and they're just so cute and silly and 'awww', i always look forward to it.

I got this idea from my best friend - bought some red card and made 21 little red boxes (like in Deal or No Deal) in each box was a present ranging from 'Will let you go on the computer without moaning for a week' some rude ones and some more expensive like dinner out, cinema tickets etc. He was given a box and could then open the boxes and decide to deal or not.

He loved the time and effort that had gone into making the boxes so much he has kept them!
